When digging around on the Locost forums, I found this little gem:

Fords Lima engine has been known around the world as a reliable mill that just needed a better head to work right. Funny thing is that the DOHC Volvo 760 turbo and head setup is just the ticket for making a 125 horse 2.5L Ranger engine into a 435 hp 390 ft/lb terror.

If that’s true, that is insane. I’ve heard of a few other franken-engines, but not this one! You guys know of any other interesting engines pieced together from unlikely sources?

Aardema Development was working on fitting Nissan 5.6L DOHC heads onto the LS block, since chamber spacing is something like 0.009” off. The same company put Porsche 928 DOHC engine heads onto a Chevy 427 (pictured) and made it work as well.

That’s quite the combination! I always thought they were close in displacement, but I would have thought there would be enough structural differences so that they’d be incompatible.

Apparently they're almost a bolt-on. Needs some elongation of the bolt holes or something, but otherwise a perfect fit.

I wonder if this was discovered partially from desperation. Guy in his garage, needs a set of heads. Looks over, and sees the Ford ones... wonders if they will fit.
