Chatting with a friend yesterday and he asked, “Have you heard about this Northern Harvest Whisky? The famous whisky reviewer rated it number 1. First time for a Canadian producer”. I had no idea what he was talking about, but suspected it was Murray and his bible. Googled and learned it’s Crown Royal.
Murray says:
“I have no doubt in my mind that that one is the best one I’ve tasted [this] year.”

“It’s equal to the highest score I’ve ever given to any whisky. It meant that I couldn’t find any faults in it as such. The nose got 25 out of 25.”

It’s $30 (amazingly), but sold out everywhere here north of the border. Probably $5 and available on every street corner in the US.

I’ve read they’re trying to bring some back from the US. If they can’t, it’ll be February before we get more. I’ll be looking too.

Wonder how this compares to "normal" Crown. A few friends of mine who were Makers drinkers switched to Crown a few years ago. Haven't ever had Crown and Makers side by side to form my own comparison.

They’re really nothing alike. Crown is one of the sweeter Rye/Canadians out there, but nothing in the ballpark for how sweet I think Makers (a bourbon) tastes.

Curious about this myself. It’s been a while since I’ve had it. Last night I had to have a look in the closet to see if I had any kicking around. Nope. I’ll probably buy a mini-bar bottle when I do find the Harvest, to do a side-by-side.

I had a bottle and honestly for me it wasn’t much more special that classic Crown. I think I paid $29 for it at the grocery store four months ago.

Not sure what the Cask 16 is, but I’ll look it up. The Cask is my whiskey review series. Of you just search OPPO for the tag The Cask you should find my posts. I had a friend post a picture of this on facebook about an hour ago and stated “ I found it...the best whisky in the world” I literally had no clue as to what he was talking about.
Now I stumble on this and it explains everything.
I’m honestly shocked that the best whisky you can buy cost only $30 bucks.
Tonight I’m on the hunt for a bottle.
