C450 AMG vs CLA45 AMG

Which would you pick? And why?

Or does it really matter?

Similar size, similar weight, similar power, similar price, both have AWD...

I would assume the CLA45 is a bit more high-strung, and the C450 would be a slightly better GT, but it’s hard to say.

(Note: I’m not interested in buying either vehicle...I just noticed recently how similar the two are and thought this would be an interesting exercise.)

Probably the C450. I think it’s just slightly better looking, and it has a V6 with a couple turbos for good measure. Although it’s somewhat odd how a car with two more cylinders and another turbo actually makes less power, even if the other one is an AMG. Not that I’d be dissatisfied with either one.

The CLA45 is an econobox with 345hp. The C450 is an actual Mercedes/poseur AMG with 362hp.

In my opinion, used S65. But between the two the C450 because the cla is dog ugly and poorly built.

I don't understand the comparison. One of these is a real Mercedes and the other is just some cheap economy car with a fancy engine.

C450.

It actually has a functional back seat, and it has a helluva lot more “presence” as a car. It’s not entirely as performance-driven as the CLA45, but it’s going to be awfully fun.

Also, I suspect in the long run the C450 will be more comfortable on long drives.

They’re both real Mercs. Transverse-engined FWD BMW’s and Mercs are a thing, it’s time to just accept it.

And like it said up above, they are very similar in a lot of ways.

The engine layout is not the issue here. The CLA is a cheap money grab piece of junk. It does not belong in the same showroom as an S class.

The same thing was said about the first generation C-class.

As a luxury car manufacturer’s model lines move gradually upmarket with every successive generation, new entry level offerings are inevitably going to fill the void. It’s happened with Audi and BMW. Now it’s Mercedes’ turn. I have more of a problem with the engine layout myself.

C450 interior quality, ride quality and space are better than the CLA45. Plus I think the CLA’s proportions are frumpy.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with the consensus here on everything. C450 > CLA45. I was just interesting in seeing the outcome.

Although the C450 AMG is just an “AMG-lite” it has a decent interior and can actually fit real adults in the back seat. I really do like the looks of the CLA45, but for its price it has a crap interior and it might as well be sold with just two doors for all the good the rear seats are.

I go with the C450.

Oh man, TONS of people hated the original C-class.

I wonder how many people on here would call the Cayman a piece of shit now that it’s an established brand? I remember the automotive press absolutely hating it when it first happened.

Interesting to see not a single person would want the CLA given the choice. Like if someone has a CLA45 I only hate it half as much as I hate the CLA250. The CLA is only acceptable to me in AMG form.

me i have the new c450 its a better car to drive, 1 the 4 matic on the cla45 favors the front wheels and on the c 450 its the opposite, 67 % of the power goes to the rear wheels, power is about the same, a little bit more for the c450. the cla45 weight about 1575 kg and the c450 1701 kg but have a more trq about 50 lbft more than the cla 45. the cla do 0-60 in 4.5 seconde and they said the c450 do it in 4.9 (but the did 4.7 with the c400 and they claim 5.3) on my opinion the c 450 do it around 4.5-4.6 so basicly the c450 is just a better car, on every single aspect except the weight its a little bit more heavy, but the driving is better you have a better interior (more space and better finish). And i add the opportunity to do a test drive on bot and i finaly decide to pick the c450.... :P
