Hanging out with my brother last night and telling him about the S13 240SX. Looked up some specs and came to an interesting realization.

Toyobaru

Yep, spec wise they are very similar to the drift missiles we lust after. However, I still think they should have cranked out some more power, an STI trim with a turbo would have been very much welcomed.

That over time cars get more powerful, heavier, and come with more standard equipment?

The KA24DE is a truck motor!

yeah.. had one (the motor at least). Gets wheezy pretty quick in the rev band, but torquey.

Two big differences.
1: torque vs. horsepower.
2: liftback hatch vs. a dinky trunklid.

Nothing wrong with that.

Is the wheelbase longer on the 240SX or is that extra length just in the overhangs?

Context, ftw.

240SX: 97.4”
86: 101.2”
So approximately 15” more overhang on the 240SX, which seems pretty significant.

Yup. Though Nissan dropped the liftback for the S14, interestingly.

Don’t disagree at all. Another 50-100 hp / 100-150 ft-lb for around $5K would be nice.

Sadly, no SR20.

So what you are saying is that I should go find me 240sx. I wish my friend didn’t crash his minty s14, that thing would have gained so much value.

For the price a clean one goes for, you might be better off with the practically equivalent Toyobaru.

Well I don’t plan on living on the East coast for much longer. So having a convertible will be a much better thing in my future. However, I don’t plan on ever getting rid of my Miata so it would seem a little silly to have two convertibles lol. I am curious what would be a better car to build into a mainly track car; S2k or Toyobaru.
