$70 from a Mom and Pop type of shop. It does smoke! PS, the coal car is called a tinder. The store also had a pristine, like IN THE ORIGINAL BOXES, 1954 set. The guy that sold it to the shop said “he played with it a lot”, yeah right, it was fucking gorgeous and... It was $155 for Tinder and Engine:(. That was WAAAAYYYYY out of my budget. Well, did I do good with this train?
PS this was me when I got it:

Tender. The word you’re looking for is tender. Sweet loco, though!

Nice, my grandparents had one like that when we went to their house. It had these tablets that you dropped into the smokestack which would make smoke... I shudder to think what was in those. *checks self for cancer*

I have one of those.
Like, legit, I actually have one just like it. The light on the front should work, and you can get smoke pills to drop down into the smoke stack. There’s a heater element inside that should burn the pill and it should look pretty good once it’s all warmed up.
Mine is boxed up currently because my dad’s been all crazy about taking everything down if it doesn’t get touched every freaking day, but it’s in there. I’m hoping he lets me take the whole chest when I move out. There’s a great Lionel train shop not far from me that’s actually called The Train Station in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Great selection, awesome layout, and when I was younger I learned how to program the wireless remote for up to 4 trains (at the time, this was almost 15 years ago), and I went around that store getting all the trains going while my dad was shopping.
I miss those days. I only had a 6x8’ table for it, and I always wanted a lot more. I wouldn’t even care about the scenery if I could get a much larger layout.
If you’re ever in the northern-ish NJ area, you absolutely must visit Northlandz . I went last year in the summer, and have been meaning to make another trip as he’s always adding and improving. It’s mostly HO scale stuff, but I absolutely love it there.

Sorry, I meant to say, “it looks like it was worth every penny!” What was I thinking?
