Had a Pretty Jalop Dream Last Night

Last night after drinking way too much, I had a dream that I had bought a new-to-me Subaru STi hatchback in Dark Grey Metallic (like the one pictured above). It was GLORIOUS! I was all excited and was about to get to work detailing it in the beautiful California sun. Then when I went to clean it, there were blueberries in the center console! FREE BLUEBERRIES!

Unfortunately, I woke up and realized I had a massive hangover, a number from a girl I can’t remember if she was into me or not, and no new Subi.

Usually, I prefer to not dream about cars since those dreams usually involve me not having control of the car. Or if I do have control of the car then for some reason my body does not have the strength to actually brake or accelerate. It’s kind of like those dreams where you are running but for some reason your legs do not work. I can’t be the only one who has these dreams right? (I feel like Torchinsky has written an article on this a long time ago)

Fascinating, most of my car dreams also involve the controls of the car not working in a terrifying manner. I thought it was just me. My hypothesis is that they’re “anxiety dreams” and since we’re car people, that situation is what our brains turn to as the ultimate worst case scenario - thinking you’re in control, and finding out that you’re along for the ride. For me, it’s usually the brake pedal that is very stiff and does not stop the car. Yikes lol.

I had a dream I was in a new BRZ (never even driven one) on my favorite local back roads. I distinctively heard a turbo spooling. I was mid corner and for some reason I just couldn't grab the wheel, watched it go over a ditch and start rolling. That's when I woke up. Pretty wild stuff!

I had a dream once about being in my garage working on my 944. In the dream, I knew (because you somehow always just seem to have absolute knowledge of things in dreams) that I had been there working on the car since time immemorial and that I would be working on it into the infinite future, without ever stopping to do anything else. If I recall correctly, all I was trying to do was remove the oil drain plug, but it just kept coming out without ever actually coming free of the pan.

Yep. I go right through the red light, or into the back of someone’s car, and then I wake up. There’s never any aftermath.

Recently dreamed that someone bought me a black Cadillac SRX with a cream interior (which doesn’t exist), which I promptly drove off the lot, crashed into a lightpole and then woke up swearing.

Yep, that’s basically how most of my dreams are. the brakes are so insanely stiff my legs are useless in slowing the car. The worst is when the car is coming to a halt but I cannot get the car to stop from the comically slow speed it is moving.

Are you me? First I find out we have almost the exact same taste in cars and now you tell me you also had a dream about driving a BRZ? Witchcraft!

Luckily my BRZ dream went the opposite way. I was driving on some bridge at night and I was going around corners (yes, corners on a bridge) while heel-toeing and downshifting with perfection. It was amazing. Then I woke up and realized I can’t drive that well. Hahaha

Exactly. The pedal is so stiff that once you get to 10-20 mph, the brakes stop working. I’m so glad you made this post lol. Judging by the responses, most Opponauts have neurotic car dreams

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one with these bizarre dreams. We always hear about people saying “oh it’s awesome to dream of driving a car through the canyons.” Well it looks like for car people it’s absolutely terrifying!

I had a (good) dream that I was driving (idk what it was TBH, a modified S30 datsun?) and I was heel toeing like a boss, taking all the right apexes, etc. I wish I drove that good in real life lol.
