The whole effort looked amateur-ish, except for the marketing. That was absolutely, by the book, brilliant. But marketing can’t remove seconds from lap times.

Maybe Nissan will try again with some Infiniti branded MR P1 car, or maybe they will enter the GT-R in the GTE class or I don’t know.

I’m disappointed.

Goodbye, beautiful fool.

I certainly wish they had performed better and hate that people lost their jobs, but I keep going back to some comments that were made at Le Mans by their competitors.

I don’t recall if it was Wolfgang Ullrich or somebody else (maybe even anonymously) in the Audi/Porsche camp, but somebody was quoted as saying that Nissan’s LMP1 effort was a complete joke and that they were only there for the publicity. The inference was that Nissan never intended on being competitive. It was simply good marketing to be there.

The program has had its critics, but the fans and the people rooting for them if only to see something different give it a go certainly seems like a larger bunch. If it was a marketing exercise, it seems to have been a success.

I’ll admit I’m disappointed, too.

I think if the Delta Wing had been given this level of effort, it would be a much more powerful force.

I seriously wonder what was so difficult about the KERS and AWD. Yes, it was seconds per lap, but where those seconds were being lost was pretty obvious and the solution was pretty obvious as well.

What was so different they couldn’t get good lap times? Was their engine crappy or something?

*Last I read about was the delta wing*

Hybrid system didn’t work at all. And the aerodynamics of the car weren’t developed enough.

That car came too early. You need to accumulate a certain amount of experience before building something so radical.

If Audi did something like that, nobody would’ve doubt it, because they have the experience needed to make it work.

Nissan couldn’t understand that this is a waiting(and money pouring) game.
