Hey, homies of Oppo. Tomorrow morning I’ll make my trek from North West Florida to North Carolina for the holidays. I was wondering if there is anybody along I-85 that has a neat car, automotive project, story, or anything within the realm of internal combustion that wouldn’t mind me stopping by to take some pictures, talk shop, and maybe create a write up for mine and

. Or anybody within, say, a two hour-ish drive of Kernersville, NC. I’ll be in NC until 2 Jan. I’m hoping to meet some enthusiasts outside of my local area since this is where all of our content is currently coming from.
Picture of an old S30 chassis for an article I’m working on for your time.

I’m on 85 every day... Mount Holly to Charlotte.
Justin Westbrook - who migrated to evening/weekend editor is in Charlotte. I believe SlavetoanMG, R-B-W Subaroo, and a few others are in the Triad area...
You could stop in the shop here if you’re around before 5. Get to see professional leather installers upgrading mundane Accords and Altimas to mundane accords and Altimas with leather interior...

I live in Fayetteville NC. I’ll be in DC 24-27 and Colombia SC 31-1. I have a project autocross 95 Miata and a 2003 Mach 1. If it’s warm enough, and I’ve replace the bad wheel bearing on the Miata, I could be persuaded to put the race wheels and tires back on and make a trip up there on the second of Jan, or maybe after I get back from DC. I also have a pretty cool Yamaha FZ-09.

I’m two hours-ish from Kernersville, west on I-40 (Black Mountain), and I’ve got a bunch of ‘60s Land Rovers, a ‘63 Ranchero with engine swap, suspension swap, and a jet drive from a SeaDoo (under construction) and a ‘59 Lincoln with semi-terminal rocker panel rust awaiting revival. There are also some old Benzes and older International heavy trucks. Probably a bit far for you, but if you have nothing better to do...

I’ll definitely let you know. It I head that far west, I’d definitely like to visit Asheville again and get some driving in on some mountain roads; things we don’t have in Florida.

That could be interesting and not far from where I’ll be. I’m assuming the shop is in Charlotte. Upholstery work is pretty neat. I’ve dabbled around with it before with some past projects. It would be cool to see how professionals do it. I’ll let you know when I see what free days I’ll have where I’m not doing family things.

Final drive is selectable, because I’m making an amphib. Perfectly normal in every way.

I’ve raised the door sills 7”, will have the floor pan sealed, and I’ve installed a 4wd transfer case to provide selectable drive. Amphibious, as soon as it has a full floor again.
