When I was a kid I would go to the regional airport a lot with my dad and watch planes take off. With technology nowadays I can even find out makes/models of the planes and flight plans on a whim.

So today I decided to go watch some take off again since I haven't done this in years. The Beechcraft pictured above is taking off now. I got to watch it startup and get the smell from the exhaust. It was exhilarating! It was a little family with 2 kids obviously going somewhere for the holidays. Hopped on FlightAware and found out they're flying to Cleveland. Safe flight guys!

I know that feel.

I did similar things any time we took someone to the airport. I’d sit there with pops and start calling out the model of aircraft taking off and etc.

Just awe inspiring to observe.

I am an inveterate plane spotter (see my post from a few minutes ago). I started in the days before Flight Radar and Flightaware, and these apps are now indispensable to the spotter. Not surprisingly, though, the E-4B I saw today was not squawking, at least not for the apps. A couple of weeks ago, I was downtown at night when a B-25 flew overhead. With Flight Radar I was able to ID it as one I've seen and photographed before.
