If Jiffy Lube won’t touch it because they don’t know how the hell to change the oil, even if it ends up being real simple.

It has nothing to do with “Jalop”-ness and everything to do with liability. The person you quoted said himself that the place said the car isn’t in their system to say what oil to use, because of this it’s very easy for someone to pull a scam on the company by saying to use the wrong oil which leads to the engine blowing up. Because there’s no company guideline for what oil to use and everything was verbal, the customer can lie about what oil they said to use and because there’s no paper trail indicating this the company gets screwed.

So absolutely nothing about being “Jalop” and everything about covering their own asses.
