I was on a fast, mildly-twisty country road when I glanced in my rear-view and saw a big blue Audi that definitely wasn’t there before. It had the “S” badge on the grill - I picked it for an S6 immediately.

Kinja'd!!!

I figured it might’ve been one o ‘dem Lamborghini V10 ones. When we got to the highway he passed me and I saw it:

Kinja'd!!!

“V10” blazoned on the size in big letters (bigger than they look in that pic, you couldn’t miss it). I also heard a noise like the heavens themselves. I followed him through a few fast roundabouts, he was having a pretty good time. I was in the MR2, so I was too.

I know you get can more power from less fuel using turbos. And I don’t care. Big engines are awesome. Hopefully one day there’ll be a premium for the V10 S6 and M5. And there’ll be people saying “remember how awesome old cars were?”. And other people saying “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ”.

And there’ll be big non-autonomous sedans with 10 cylinders under the hood, reminding us that those people are wrong.

hmm.

there were some good old cars yes. but just because its is old doesn’t automatically mean its good. even if it was a ‘good’ model. its been 20, 30 years. shit rots and wears out. cars get neglected. You need to find one that has been taken care of and serviced. not beaten to within an inch of its life and put away wet.

modern cars. okay, sure. it doesnt have the ‘feel’ or the smell of an old car. it will also get 30+mpg out of a 300+ motor, save you in a crash, not squeak, rattle, or break down every time you look at it funny. Which lets be honest, as nice as an old afla is to drive, you spend more time fixing it then driving it.

Yea. Just imagine in 40 years when your grandkids are trying to tell you about the new self driving car or someshit.

They’ll never understand the V10 S6/M5.

My dad had a 2009 S8 for several years before trading it in for a 2014. He still misses the V10 wail, even if the new ones are faster.

But this has turbos too, so it’s even better.

Srsly? I didn’t even know.

I’m not going to argue with cylinders AND turbos. It sounded goddam awesome. I thought it was pretty much just the turboless Lambo V10?!

Good to hear it’s not just me. I’m not an owner, my opinion is less valid than your dad’s.

They’ll probably think we sound like idiots. Like if someone told you things were better when we had to hand-crank our cars.

Maybe it’s our job to properly educate our kids in such things as V10 sedans.

Definitely. Like you said, being old almost always means it’s worse in many ways, even if it’s better in some. It’s not as easy as saying “old cars are better”.

Yes. Just like old people are fond of the muscle car era. We are fond of computer controlled overpowered Sedans that can roam the street.

Just like the new Hellcat commercial. Our ancestors had to worry about sabretooths and such. We had to create our own monsters to fear.

“I know you get can more power from less fuel using turbos.” No. You can get the ability to burn more fuel from less displacement. It’s not a free lunch; when you make more power you burn more fuel, and the savings come from the fact that most of the time you’re making less power.

This V10 is NA, it’s the last gen RS6 that got the TT V10. The S6 went from NA V8, to NA V10, to TT V8.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, the funny thing is that it makes more power than the Gallardo or the R8. 571 hp in the RS6 vs. the highest power Gallardo at 562.

Oh, I thought it was the RS 6, which had the TT V8, TT V10, then back to TT V8.

Also the 1st gen S6 also had a turbo I5.

Only 20 years, eleven days, one hour, and sixteen minutes until this exact one can legally be brought in. And, yes, this. Exact. One. And even when it sells, I will track down another one in the same color combo, with the carbon ceramic brakes, and tan leather, because it’s perfect.

I have to say that I was always a bit disappointed that Mercedes never played along and made a V10 E-class AMG. Especially when their C-class AMG had a V8 and their S-class AMG got a V12, it just makes sense!

I always loved the idea of a raucous V10 in an executive luxury saloon and a bonkers combination like that you’d really expect from AMG before M-division or Quattro-Gmbh.

I live in Australia, the real land of the free. We can already bring these in.

You may get RS-6’s before we do, but in Australia, you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of stepping on its loud pedal without being sent to jail with “hoon” plastered over your face in the local paper for doing 10,15,20 mph over the speed limit.

Kinja'd!!!

America, on the other hand... We get 85 mph speed limits in some parts of the country, with 65-70 being the norm mostly everywhere, and we have cool policemen who allow stuff like this from time to time, too.

We don’t get utes though, I’m definitely jealous of the Aussies for getting those things.

It is a weird setup in America. You have limits that everybody disobeys. On here, sometimes you see people complaining because they were doing 75mph in a 65 zone and someone was holding them up. I can see the logic, but it’s strange.

Yes, we’re too strict. It’s all about that cash-money. Just means you’ve gotta pick your chances. I saw the S6 on Tubbarubba Road (lel), it’s out of the way and goes nowhere, not much chance of a speed camera. I was only on it to avoid some road works.

I’ve never been in a ute. I know a guy with a V8 one, apparently it’s fairly mental.

I like to believe that there’ll always be vehicles for enthusiasts, always be vehicles with some amount of control. I’m hopeful at least.
