If you've read my article at Hooniverse, you should know how much the Ferrari 458 has affected me. But it has me curious. What is your personal Car of the year? The best one you've driven that is.

e39 530i. I’ve never driven a proper RWD car before then. My goodness. I compare every car to it now. The induction sound, brakes, handling, steering, visibility and comfort is sublime. And yet all of that luxury and comfort comes without being so isolated that it becomes terrifying to try to exploit the limits.

Probably my ‘16 STi. Especially now that I have some break-in miles on it and have been able to do some spirited driving. Its super fun.
The best car that I’ve driven that I don’t own was a 2014 Taurus SHO performance pack. Yeah it’s heavy, but its like an NFL defensive lineman that does ballet. They are fun cars.

I borrowed a friend’s 458 for a weekend earlier this year (at least I think it was early 2015). Probably the best car I drove all year.
The i8 that I drove (and bought) this week is the future, though. The current iteration is really great, and this is really the tip of the spear when it comes to this type of technology.

Jeez. I feel a bit worthless now.
In 2015 I drove the following “cars”
1) 1995 F-150 XLT. Good, owes nobody nothing
2) 2011 Impala LS. Horrid, despicable vehicle
3) 2006 Pacifica AWD. Don’t even ask. Ugh!
4) 2003 Yukon XL SLT. Meh
I’ve ridden the following 3 wheelers as well
1) 1984 Honda 200x. Whee
2) 1985 Honda 200x. Whee
3) 1984 Honda 200x. Whee
4) 1985 Honda 350x. YaHoo!!
5) 1984 Yamaha Tri Z 250. HOLYCRAPTHISTHINGWANTSTOKILLTHEHUMANRACEHOLDONIMGOINGAGAIN! WOOOO!!
So technically the best car I’ve driven this year isn’t a car at all..

Easy - a 1972 RHD classic mini. I’ve driven super fast cars, exotics, cool sports cars, etc but the classic mini takes the cake for most smiles per mile.

911 GTS Targa or F-Type Coupe R... Quite the toss up.
The F-Type might be my favorite car of all time but the 911 is probably a better car.

Subjectively, because of my own personal biases, the original NSX. It’s literally everything I want in a car, and nothing I don’t.
Objectively, the Porsche Cayman GT4 may very well be the best car I’ll ever drive.

Well, it was probably my Cutlass. It was a terrible, terrible car. It leaked, ran terribly, smoked, and liked its drink. But I’d be mad if I said I didn’t want another one.
Of the ones I haven’t owned? Probably the 2006 Toyota Sienna. For a 4000 lb + minivan, she sure can run.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have done so, even if it was only for a few hours. Basically, everything you’ve heard about it is 100% true. It’s perfect.

mine,
mine,
and mine.

It’s been a boring car year for me. 2015 Jetta 2.0T, two 2015 Toyota Rav4’s, hyundai Santa Fe (rental cars). My own cars (mazda 3 and an Outback). The highlight was when my dad drove the 71z up to the house and I ran it up and down the road a couple of times. Trying to talk him into a permanent lending agreement.

Yes it is. I’ve driven a WRX and while it was fun to hoon around in, the turn in of a RWD car is just plain nicer. It just turns. No fuss (unless you overcook it).
The first time I took a corner at speed in that e39 was a revelation! I was expecting some understeer like my daily but it just turned like it was telling me “is that all you’ve got?” I’ve been converted now. I want RWD and that is all.

Thinking about it, I actually didn’t drive that many cars this year. A bunch of work vans, my car, my truck, the family/funeral cars, a few forgettable rentals, an Elantra, and a butt turrible Lancer with a CVT. If we can count cars I’ve driven prior to this year as well I think I’d have to give it to the truck.
If that doesn’t count, christ I don’t know. Ford Transit?
Best I (unofficially) co-drove has to be the Nameless BR-Z. I’ve been in it before, but it now has more than twice the power, different suspension, different driver, and even a different badge, so it’s essentially a new car.
Best I officially co-drove was Garry Gill’s $125,000 STi. Though the Fiesta R2 was pretty sweet as well

COBB tuned WRX STi. 400 wheel horsepower and a Marine license plate means it’s damn near the fastest thing around cause there are 0 cops in Small Town Indiana that are going to pull over an ex-Marine for something as mundane as speeding. The owner let me do a hard launch which changed my mind about WRX’s in general. Really fun car, and very nice of the owner to let little 17 year old me rag on it for a few minutes after I convinced him that I could. in fact, drive a manual.

There is great debate about this. But Subaru does have a recommended break-in phase of 1000 miles of keeping it under 3.5k RPMs and varied driving. The EJ257 engine isn’t exactly new either and it has a history of spinning rod bearings and excessive oil consumption.
I have my own break-in that I based off of reading as much as I could on the internet. I kept it under 3k till 500 miles, then 3.5K at 750, and have gradually increased by 500RPMs every 250 miles. I also combined this this with part throttle runs in 3rd or 4th up to 5500-6000RPMs and then let it engine-brake down do 2500 RPMS for 2-3 cycles at 500, 1000, and 1500 miles to help seat the rings.
I also did one oil change at 1000 miles and will take it for a dealer service at 2000 miles.
