I was walking past parked cars a couple weeks back and spotted this thing in a car...
(reflection photobomb by my daughter)
Yes, it is a tube you clip to your vent and run air back to your kid’s car seat. I have two kids, both born and raised in Michigan cold weather, and have never once saw the need for one of these things. The whole car heats up in a matter of 2 minutes so I ask, Why? Why is this a thing?
Also after googling I found out its called ‘The Noggle’. Where my noggles at?

Back in my day I walked 17 miles to school barefoot through the snow uphill both ways.
/get off my lawn with your sissy heating tube

I didn’t want to be that guy at the age of 31 but that’s exactly the way I feel.

It’s actually not that bad of an idea. A lot of cars don’t warm up or cool off that fast. Car seats are hotter than normal seats and if you don’t have rear vents, it gets it to the kid quicker.
Looks insane, but honestly, I don’t think it’s a terrible idea.

When I was googling it I thought a better use for it would be in super hot climates for cooling a kid off. This is Michigan, put a blanket on them for the first 3 minutes of the ride. :)

because, as a parent, I can tell you without one you will have the heat (or cold) cranked to an uncomfortable level so that the little ones in the back stop their whining

If ‘50s luxury cars had the option of rear seat heater ducts, why on earth don’t modern cars?

Yeah, I’m in Michigan too. I have remote start so I get it warm or cool before I get us in there.
But still I get it, especially on cars that take a while to get going.
It could be used for heat in Michigan (if it ever decides to get cold out, maybe February).

You’re only considering its heating capabilities. Try being in the Central Valley of California in July in a car with a black leather interior. It can easily get to 105º-115º outside and if your windows aren’t tinted, woe unto you (and the back of your thighs when you sit down in the driver’s seat in shorts).

There’s a guy around here who has something like this to cool the batteries in his Insight while he autocrosses it. I think he’s found a much more worthwhile use, honestly.
e: He’s pretty quick, too. Good for him.

I admitted in another comment that I see its usefulness for cooling in hot climates. It’s the ‘old man’ showing in me thinking its only making sissies of our kids. :)

Back in my day, we didn’t have heaters in the car. We had to build small fires in the back seat in order to survive the car ride to school. A child that doesn’t build survival skills at an early age is a dead child. The Noggle is the pussyfication of ‘mericuh!

Some cars (most maybe?) actually already have hidden ducts/vents to the rear that exit underneath the front seat. Both of my Subaru’s do. A crappy base-model Jetta that I drove recently did too. Helps it warm up in the back pretty quickly unless the kids leave crap down there that blocks them. Also works great with AC in the summer if you put it on bi-level. My previous car was a Hyundai had Volvo-style vents for the rear on the B-pillars, and I think that the under-seat vents in the Subaru actually push more air to the back than those did.

You bet! They’d need a larger diameter tube and a helper fan if they wanted to be effective. I’ve often considered engineering something comparable. Dryer exhaust duct, perhaps, and a 12-volt large-diameter computer case fan. Be a fun project and make the kids happy.
