Where is it? Parts of your body are mapped across your brain in an odd order, so you can scratch one part and it may relieve it in another area.
People use this to treat ‘phantom itch’ that some amputees get. For instance if you stroke the cheek of someone who has lost an arm, they also feel the sensation in the arm that’s not there.
That works because your brain is plastic and the sensory bits for your cheek are adjacent to the bits for your arm and they expand into those areas that are no longer used.
Probably won’t work for you as your brain’s not had enough time to reshape itself, but it would be interesting to see if it does.
Another option depending on where the itch is is to make a box with a mirror in it. People use that again for phantom limb syndrome, but primarily with pain. Sometimes amputees can feel that the limb that they have lost is tensing its tensing its muscles so hard it’s painful, like it’s spasming.
What people do then is make a box where they can put their good arm in (covered up) but a mirror reflects it so it looks like they have their amputated arm back. They tense their good arm into the position that it feels like their amputated arm is in, then slowly relax it.
The brain then gets tricked into thinking that the arm it no longer has isn't spasming anymore and has relaxed to a comfortable state!
Massive overkill, but it’s cool how your body works :)
