I checked the tread with the quarter test which revealed that they were well worn. I ended up ordering the Pirelli’s that I asked about earlier. Hopefully they will last longer than the 20,000 miles that the Bridgestones got me.

Yep... confirms my past experience with Bridgestone/firestone products.

There always to be some issue with them.

I had a set of firestones wear out in 20,000km.

And I had a set of bridgestone potenzas get really noisy after 10,000km of use.

I’m sure it doesn’t help that these were the OEM tires, so they probably weren’t made to the same standards as consumer tires, however I certainly will never purchase a Bridgestone tire in the future. Hopefully the Pirellis will do me well.

Also, 12,000 miles on a set of tires? Thats crazy!

I was impressed with a set of Yokohama S-Active tires on my M3. They were heavily discounted and were comparable to my Nitto Nt-555s for wear and road noise.

I’ve not heard as much good about the Yokohama CUV/SUV tires. If I had a Legacy, or Impreza, I’d defiantly look into those.

I didn’t realize you were putting them on a crossover. Which model?

It’s an Outback. I usually call it a wagon, but deep down inside I know it’s a crossover.

Drive in a lot of wet weather? Make sure you get a tire with heavy siping. I used to run a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX all seasons on my E36 and loved them. They’re direction and assymetrical.

Tons of wet weather. I go to school in Wilmington NC which is on the coast, and when it rains (multiple times per week), it pours. The Pirelli Scorpion All Season Plus tires that I ordered from the dealer have a great rating for hydroplaning resistance, and are supposed to be good in the snow for when I go to Philly or Upstate NY according to Tire Rack.

I’m in NorCal, I’m mostly running extreme performance summer tires all year round. (Except for my SUV and truck.) Pirelli makes great tires, I’m sure you’ll be impressed.

I’m hoping. The reviews said that they will improve handling, so I am quite excited. I wish I could run Summer tires but I travel too much, and don’t have space to store a second set of tires. Maybe in the future when I have my own house, and own garage I’ll get a dedicated summer wheel/tire set.

Prepare to be disappointed, bro. I was doing donuts so I could swap out the goddamn Pirellis that came on my V-Sport. They were half worn out before I got home from the dealership.

Hopefully the suv tires are better than the car tires. They are the top rated ones on the market for my Outback. If they last longer, and perform better than the Bridgstones, I’ll be happy.

Oh ok. I assumed performance tires because Oppo. I have nothing to contribute here.

Factory tires tend to be less-than-great, but they deliver acceptable performance over the board, and wear out soon enough to bring the vehicle back to the dealership while it’s under warranty.

In fairness to Bridgestone/Firestone, their consumer tires are pretty good, as long as you keep them properly balanced and rotated, and AFAIK all the all-seasons are rated for at least 40k miles.

I myself most prefer Yokohama, but have had good experiences personally with Nexen, Toyo, General, Firestone, Bridgestone, and Captitol. I will never willingly put Michelins on my vehicle, unless it’s some extremely-specific set designed for the car, like if I bought a GT350R or McLaren and those were the ones the manufacturers had thrown hundreds of thousands of dollars into testing and development. But even then I’d still want to do a test-drive comparison. Michelin may make space shuttle tires, but they’ve almost lead to premature death for myself and others too frequently.

I’m hoping what I read about the Pirellis I ordered will stand true. Even though the Bridgestones were lower quality factory tires, they’ve left such a bad taste in my mouth that I think I am going to steer clear of Bridgestone/Firestone tires for my future purchases. I’ve never had truly good tires, factory Kumhos on my Kia, factory Continentals on my Elantra, and the cheapest Primewell tires I could get at firestone on my old 94 Volvo. Of all of these my Subaru’s tires have performed the worst, so hopefully I will finally have a good experience with my new tires. I agree on the Michelin thing. They last forever, but the cars I’ve driven with them haven't performed the best.

No way, the Outback is a wagon, the Forester is a CUV. I mean the Outback has been getting more and more CUV like especially in the two most recent generations (the first three gens are unambiguously wagons), but I’d still call it a wagon.

I still consider it a wagon due to the fact that it is a longroof legacy, but the ride height makes it kinda CUVish.

I didn’t get much more out of the Continentals that came on my S40. I think the shop refused to put them on at around 22,000 miles, but I have snow tires as well, so the Continentals weren’t on all the time. Spirited driving on twisty roads is not conducive to good tire life though. It was also only one tire that was all the way down to the wear indicators, so may have been alignment or inflation related issues as well.

I’ve not driven too spiritedly on these tires to warrant them being worn down this quick. Oh well.

I really like my Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 snow tires. Do a good job in snow, an adequate job on ice (not as good as Bridgestone Blizzaks), and (unlike Blizzaks), work as well as all season tires on dry roads. Don’t know if the PA3s are as good, it’s a totally different tread pattern.

I’m not really impressed with my Michelin Pilot Exalto AS tires though, they don’t seem to have anywhere near as much grip as the Continentals that were on the car before, and are noisier as well, though they are better in the wet (where the Continentals were a disaster). Overall I’d be just as happy with my snow tires, which is definitely an indictment on the Pilot Exaltos.
