Recently I noticed someone on Oppo mention they had a bottle of vintage Johnnie Red label. Since, I’ve wondered how different or similar to modern Johnnie it is. Just found my favorite scotch reviewer has answered that question.

Couldn’t tell you how I feel about Red or Black. Haven’t had either in 20 years. Gold good. Green was very good, but I have since moved away from peaty scotch.

Interested to try Platinum.

As a relatively new scotch drinker, may I ask what the rankings for Johnnie Walker are? I have tried their Black label but I wasn’t a fan. It was very smokey in my opinion. I did quite like a bottle of Glenlivet 12 year I tried once though.

Me and my dad have platinum daily and so we enjoy it but my fav is green but I don’t think it’s available as readily then comes gold which also is having the same prob as green harder to find then blue which is nice but over rated more show than go then black, black is usually what we serve as a party whiskey at our family functions red is almost insulting to some according to my dad lol

lowest to highest: Red, Black, Green, Gold, Platinum, Blue

To be honest though, Green through Blue taste very similar. Blended Scotches don’t show as much character change from barrel aging that single malts do.

Drink Macallan or Balvenie and be much more satisfied.

An older bottle of Scotch is always going to be much smoother and mellow than a newer one, especially if it’s been opened. Scotches mellow as they are exposed to air and light.

I tried Green and Gold together once and could hardly tell the difference. I wasn’t that impressed with Blue. It lacked any personality and was really indistinct. Platinum is excellent, but my day-to-day Johnny Walker is Black, mainly for budget reasons.

With that said, I agree with Turbo PumKing needs more than four cylinders... and go with a single malt. I have never been disappointed with Macallan. The 25 danced on my tongue like the tears of angels. 18 is amazing and 12 is very very drinkable.

Very informative. Thank you!

Looks like I’ll need to try a Macallan or Balvenie soon.
