Things Americans do:
let 14 inches of snow keep them from contributing to society

I'm so very jealous . Damn you straight to hell.
![]() 12/14/2015 at 12:59 |

untrue, I don’t need 14 inches of snow to prevent me from contributing to society.

you should see what happens in parts of America where we don’t usually get snow.
- It snowed an 1/8th of an inch, shut down EVERYTHING, call the governor we need a state of emergency out here. Mobilize the military to help stranded motorists.

That snow drifting is gonna hurt your fuel economy.
Your hypermiling buddies will never let you live this one down...

Lucky bugger. When we got the 30” dump last year just after new years I still went to work. Should have gone skiing instead. Supposed to get another 2-4 this week in town. 50” on the mountain, I scrapped my wide skis last night.

I grew up in an area where 6 - 10 inches of snow was common and not a huge deal to anyone, now I live in an area where snow happens once a decade, if that, and it’s hilarious to see how people react to even the slightest flurry

“You’re still coming to work, right?”
“Well my car wouldn’t start... so I’m taking my bicycle today”

This is one of those strange storms were we got a foot or more and Alta strait up the hill from me (I can see the snowbird tram from my house) got 5 inches. laaaaame. Still, its supposed to keep going through tomorrow.

brap brap braaaaaapppp !!!

Putting things into a more realistic perspective, would you rather they spend a day not contributing to society, or actively taking from society in the form of destroying public property and requiring medical attention after they wrap their car around a utility pole?
I’d rather see them take a day off or work from home.

Umm, can I move in with you? Not only do you go on some awesome offroad trips you live down the damn street from Snowbird/Alta. Is your wife a supermodel too? I’m a little jealous if you can’t tell :)

Yeah, a light dusting would shut down Houston....heck people forget how to drive when it rains here, and it does that on a fairly regular basis! Asking folks to drive in the snow? That’s just asking for massive issues.

Doh! Don’t want to scrap my nice skis, just scrape the storage wax off.

What neighborhood are you in I only got about 6” downtown. But the roads were pretty slick judging by the amount of cars parked backwards on i80.

Better stock up, shits gonna get real.
![]() 12/14/2015 at 13:45 |

Hahaha. We got less than an inch and the state absolutely was cancelled for 3 days.
![]() 12/14/2015 at 13:45 |

A few weeks ago they told us 8” and we got 18”.
They be low ballin’ the numbers.
![]() 12/14/2015 at 14:15 |

Lol ok. I'm like that's really unfortunate if you just scrapped them.

I just work from home when it get’s that bad out. Just as productive, and I usually end up working more hours because I don’t waste that time traveling to and from the office.

In New-Brunswick we had 16ft snow drifts after February 15th 2015 snow storm. so it’s really not far off.

DC had basically a couple metro-wide shutdown in 2013-2014 for snowstorms. I wound up agreeing with the authorities, in general the public was too stupid to be out and about.
The first one was around 9 inches or so. I went out in my 1988 TLC to have a look around. I offered to pull no less than 3 different cars out and was refused each time. No idea why. Most were stuck due to no ground clearance in drives and uphill intersections.
People also were ricocheting off each other at intersections despite the light to non-existant traffic at 6 AM. Mostly being stupid and flooring it when the car has no traction, or blowing through the lights with ABS stuttering because their Mercedes GL has 4x4 and can go 60 MPH in a 45 mph rated road on a snow day, so that’s what you do.
Totally unprepared, mentally and physically, all of them. Being from northern climes I felt quite out of place in my fur hat swampers and thermos full of coffee puttering around to have coffee with my buddy.

And it was 70 degrees in Buffalo yesterday.
God dammit, I want some snow! If for no other reason than a nice white Christmas. I mean hell, that’s one of the benefits of living up north. If there’s no snow on Christmas what’s even the point? I might as well live in some shit hole in Florida.
