Now, 2015 was a
REALLY
fucking good year for music. I attribute this to the fact that most musicians take about 2 years between albums, and the fact that we got
so much
really good new artists in 2013, which was 2 years ago. So, all those artists are no releasing sophomore albums. Not only that, 2013 had some really good albums from already established artists, too.
For this list, I’m going to name the best and worst song from each, after #5 or so, it got really hard naming the worst song, because for most of these albums, I really like every song.
#10 - The Names - Baio
Who knew the bassist from Vampire Weekend could actually sing? I sure didn’t!
Best Song: Brainwash yyrr Face
Worst Song: Needs
#9 - Astoria - Marianas Trench
Marianas Trench, proving that the transition from pop punk to full on pop doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Other artists have done this too, like Paramore and Panic! At The Disco. Also wins the award for “worst album cover”.
Best Song: Astoria
Worst Song: One Love
#8 - Talking Is Hard - Walk The Moon
This album reminded me a lot of Two Door Cinema Club, which is good, considering TDCC seemed to have disappeared of the earth.
Best Song: Work This Body
Worst Song: Come Under The Covers
#7 - Vega Intl. Night School - Neon Indian
This is a very, interesting, album. However, it’s interesting in the best way possible. It’s an extremely unique album, although in some songs the uniqueness goes too far.
Best Song: News From The Sun
Worst Song: 61 Cygni Avenue
#6 - American Beauty/American Psycho - Fall Out Boy
FOB took everything that was good about Save Rock And Roll, and basically did it again, but bigger and better. However, the version of Irresistible that had Demi Lovato in it can go fuck itself.
Best Song: Fourth Of July
Worst Song: Centuries
#5 - Blue Neighbourhood - Troye Sivan
Finally! An internet star makes an album that doesn’t make me want to chop my ears off! Take notes, Shawn Mendes.
Best Song: Cool
Worst Song: Talk Me Down
#4 - another eternity - Purity Ring
On behalf of the entire province of Alberta, we’re extremely sorry for Nickelback. I think that’s why this band exists, to prove music from this province doesn’t have to be shit. Another Eternity is an excellent album, blending the clean, almost artificial sounding vocals of Megan James with some extremely good hip-hop inspired beats.
Best Song: Repitition
Worst Song: Sea Castle
#3 - Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen
This album had literally no right to be this goddamn excellent. Pop music doesn’t have to be grating and insufferable, and this album proves it.
Best Song: Warm Blood
Worst Song: I Really Like You
#2 - Every Open Eye - CHVRCHES
Yes, I love this band. Of course it was going to be high up on this list, what would you have expected? Granted, I still like The Bones Of What You Believe a lot better, but this is a very, very, very good sophomore album.
Best Song: Empty Threat
Worst Song: Afterglow
#1 - Adventure - Madeon
Quite simply the best EDM album I’ve ever listened to. Absolutely mesmerizing from end to end. This album has been on repeat since it was released in March, and I haven’t gotten tired of it yet.
Best Song: La Lune
Worst Song: Imperium
(Editors note: This is a completely arbitrary and unprofessional list, your mileage and opinions may vary)

No love for Tame Impala or Beach House?
Also Vampire Weekend and 2DCC need to hurry the hell up and drop new albums.

My jimmies are rustled because of no Beach House.

Didn’t listen to either album. I procrastinate a lot, it took me ages to listen to Purity Ring or the new Carly Rae Jepsen album.

Not sure I DC or TYLS though. Sparks and Majorette are both good but each has its lows as well.

I getcha, I’m in the same boat. Plenty of stuff I missed. Also, Talib Kweli’s Indie 500 oughta get an honorable mention for best album cover.

I accept this list solely on the inclusion and placement of Purity Ring and CHVRCHES.
Clearest Blue is such an epic song. Lies might be a little better, but I have enjoyed Every Open Eye very much.
I would have Son Lux on there. Bones is a very good album.

I love Depression cherry but now I have to hear the rest of their stuff. The first time I heard Space Song on the indie/school radio station, I loved the guitar riff. I feel cheesy for saying indie station, if you’ll excuse me I have to wear oversize glasses, drive a 20 year old rwd car, hate everything, and talk about free trade coffee.

It’s nbd. I listen to indie and alt but I also hunt, drive a 4Runner, and have a large dog. No shame in not fitting the stereotype.

“Worst Song: Centuries”
I applaud you for being so unashamed of your wrongness, but it doesn’t change that you’re wrong.

I am correct. That is the worst song on AB/AP. Fight me.

Where, when, and what fighting style?

Here. Now. Fists only.

That’s weaponry, not style.

Style: punching

Fair enough, brass knuckles or no?

Just fists.
