!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is directly across from our building. Most days there is a long line in front, and the line is for ... a cookie. We’ve had one (chocolate-chocolate chip), and while it’s good, it’s not worth a 45 minute wait. Hell, I’m not even going to wait in line for Star Wars - seats reserved!

45 minutes for a cookie? That’s freaking insane.

Looks like an Apple store on first release day.
*shakes head

Indeed - I am at a point in my life where I won’t stand in line for anything. Wanted to have brunch at new place Jacob’s Pickles a couple weeks back - 30 minute wait? Nope. Stood in line to meet Julia Child a long time ago, would stand in line to meet Walken or to get Spielberg to sign a Jaws bluray for me (that almost happened) but otherwise? No.

Wait, do they know that one can make cookies from scratch in that amount of time?

And it’s not as though you’re figuring out a complex sauce - what are there, maybe 8 ingredients in that cookie? You could probably science it out in an afternoon. I did the same thing for my Nana’s blintze recipe .

Exactly, this shop probably only uses a small amount more of one ingredient or a minuscule amount of something somewhat random. Regardless, 45 minutes is too long to wait for a store bought cookie.

I will say - before good reviews brought the hipsters, I’d buy a brioche or French bread there once in a while. Expensive, but very good. But I’ll get lesser bread from Fairway rather than wait even 5 minutes.

Kudos to the owners but that does kind of suck.

Average day when you’re looking for desserts in NYC.

It’s a slushbox - I looked. The GF makes fun of me because I peer in the window of every 3 series I see. I’d say less than 10% manuals. Sigh ...

Ahh, but you see, it's an 8-Speed ZF also used in the Jaguar F-Type and the like.

Tell you what - come over, stand in line, bring it up to my apartment, and we’ll split it 3 ways. All the Newcastle you can drink.

There was a discussion here a few days back about how many gears an automatic needs to have. I thought 4 was fine on my ‘87 300D and ‘97 SHO, 5 is probably sufficient nowadays, but what do I know?

I prefer 6 gears, to be honest. 7 or more is overkill.

Funny - last car I rented was a Chevy Volt. Who knows what sort of transmission it has? Too lazy to look it up now.

The bakery? I won’t give out the name of this bakery to preserve giving up your location, but calling it “the bakery” is like calling “the Super Bowl” something like, “The Large Dish”. Proof? Feast your eyes:
Not worth 45 mins... my ass.

Do you have to resort to Amazon to buy it at this point? Not even sure if there’s regular Quik in my grocery store ....

So true. I love both savory and sweet treats, but I can shop and cook with the best of them. If I’m waiting for anything, it’s for my oven to finish cooking whatever I’m making.

Trying to make a replicate their cookie in particular though... That’s like trying to replicate growing a truffle in a farmed situation... No one’s really been able to do it.

If I have some time this winter, I might take a crack at it. But conditions have to be right. Remind me in a month.

I don’t care - it’s Levain on 74th right off Amsterdam.
