The first is rather romantic. From the dawn of humanity, humans dreamed to fly like birds. And shortly after, they dreamed to shoot bad guys out of the sky, obviously.
The other is as reasonable as it gets. We will need trained professionals when the next space revolution begins. And it’s easier to convert fighter pilots into astronauts, rather than converting Doritos eating, drone operators into astronauts.
This isn’t a militaristic pledge in any way. Just an observation.
