I don’t think I can be convinced that Americana has much of anything in common with what Metallica does... Load and Reload were closer to that kind of music but not extremely so.

They never really went into pop metal/ pop punk type music. Even from the less well regarded albums you have stuff like King Nothing and Until it Sleeps which are genuinely well made songs, even if they aren’t particularly heavy. Far from the likes of “the kids arent alright.”

No, they did thrash pop, like I said.

Honestly, I’m mostly kidding - I don’t think I’ve listened to a Metallica song in years, let alone anything new. But they always struck me as nothing more than a less talented version of the Offspring. I certainly wouldn’t call their stuff ‘metal’ - it’s about as metal as Avril Lavigne, who in turn is about as metal as Donny Osmond and Michael Buble duetting Christmas carols.
