We have had the CX-5 for 3 years this month.

Bought in December 2012 with 6 miles. December 2015, it has 31,000 miles. It has never had a single mechanical issue. We haven’t been to the dealer except for oil changes and tire rotations.

However, the interior quality hasn’t been what I expected. It hasn’t held up all that well. Both rear seat map pockets tore at the stitching, which we later realized is because we were lowering the rear seat and not removing the headrests first (they pulled the stitching out). But the upholstery? Yuck. I’ll never buy light colored cloth in a car again. It has turned blue from my wife’s jeans.

Overall, we are happy with it. The seat material is obviously cheap-ish but the rest of the car has held up well. If you’re ever in the market for an early CX-5, get leather seats.

The seats in my 2 year old Taco are much worse... we should have had foresight and gotten seat covers.

Our Taco has actually held up really well, though it has black seats.

That drivers seat looks nearly as bad as my 4Runners did when I got it when it was 16. It looks worse now, but having a 250lbs guy slide in and out will destroy them, so it’s probably my fault.

I'm researching custom fitted seat covers, actually. It doesn't bother my wife at all but the seats in the CX-5 drive my OCD self insane. And, once it becomes a baby-mobile someday, they'll only get worse.

Our jobs are 10 miles away from home and our families live one mile away (her parents and my grandparents are practically neighbors). We tend to not put a lot of miles on vehicles.

This is good to know. My wife and I are considering one for a replacement for Corolla.

Interesting. My buddy has a 2013 Tacoma with that light grey interior and it is holding up pretty well. I wonder how much of it has to do with clothing and driving style. Is there a difference in the seats between different trims? His is a quad-cab SR5 PreRunner.

Thanks for the insight! I will be more than likely getting a used CX-5 in the next year, so this is all good stuff to know. My dad wants me to be in an SUV for safety reasons, despite the fact that cars are just as safe, but that’s another topic. Anyway, I think that the CX-5 is the best bet in the category because it drives so well.

I was already planning on getting a Grand Touring model, but the cloth seats definitely convinced me to wait to find a GT in my price range. I’m glad your CX-5 has had no issues otherwise, it makes me feel more confident in my potential choice!

It is all my fault. I used to wear this belt every that was capped with a little metal at the end. Well that just shredded the area behind my right cheek. Also, I drive 35k miles a year, and have anywhere between 6 and 14 stops day, so double that and that’s how many times I’m getting in and out of the seat.

Yeah, I agree. But since we’ve literally not had a single problem with the vehicle otherwise (not even anything unusual), I guess I can deal. And my wife didn't even notice it.

Yeah, our ‘08 CX-9 is still doing great at 180k, even though the interior trim was pretty beat up fairly early on. =)
