This is still one of the best odes to car culture, and trying new things.

Makes me miss my S2000, but at the same time, after that car, I tried something new, something older than me, and something totally interesting.

(PS: Moog is 37? What the fuck)

Moog being 37 is proof that you can be a child forever. I look forward to several more decades of immaturity.

Yes, this video was touching to me too... because it struck me that I have a lot more in common with people like Moog than people who are actually experienced mechanics. It’s clear from many episodes that Marty really knows his stuff and Moog doesn’t, he just knows what he likes, and he provides the creative direction for the show.

People who didn’t grow up in a garage, didn’t have any role model who wrenched, people for whom driving and car appreciation is simply a fascination which happened to arise seemingly randomly. People who enjoy banter with other car people but are contemptuous of what it is expected that we do with our cars by others.

I think this is going to be ever more common as cars get more complex- people will have a fascination with cars, but from a position of less practical knowledge than they did in the past. There will be a greater sense of wonder in them, though.

I love the S2000. I sincerely hope you enjoyed yours.
