How would you say 718? Seven-eighteen? As a New Yorker, I have to say seven-one-eight. It’s the area code for Brooklyn. I’ve been saying it my whole life. Seven-eighteen sounds weird as fuck to me.
Moreover, how do you say 458? 488? 156? 722? 350? 124? 911? Do you read the numbers as singles, like four-five-eight? Or do you say the first number and then the next two numbers together, like four-fifty-eight? Seven-two-two? Seven-twenty-two? One-two-four? One-twenty-four?
Why do we say it a certain way for some cars (nine-eighteen), and a different way for other cars (four-five-eight)?

For everyone you mentioned:
Seven-One-Eight, Four-Fifty-Eight, Four-Eight-Eight, One-Five-Six, Seven-Twenty-Two, Three-Fifty, One-Two-Four, Nine-Eleven.
Depends on the car I guess.

Syllable count sets in.
I would never say nine ninety six

I call a 944 a nine four four, but I don’t think any one calls a 911 a nine one one. I call a 914 a nine fourteen, but a 924 a nine two four. I guess it depend on the car, or rather just how the numbers sound together.

You wait for the manufacturer to produce a TV or radio commercial, and avoid saying the name out loud until then.
That’s how everyone in America learned that Pall Mall was actually pell mell.

I leave it to the manufacturer to decide, but the pronunciation gains even more credibility if linked to the country of origin.

For me it depends really. I’d say a 458 is a four five eight, but then I call all chevy motors that same, like a 327 is a three twenty seven.
Though my favorite pronunciation is for Porsche, I just call it a glorified Volkswagen. lol
