and I never remember. The other week I went to spray my rear window with washer fluid and… nothing. Odd, it worked yesterday and the front works fine so it can’t be out of washer fluid. WRONG. So Wrong. In the older WRX (maybe newer too) there are two pumps, one for the windshield one for the rear, and the rear sits just a smidgenidge higher than the one for the front. I should know this. This happens to me literally every year and I forget about it every single year. Luckily it’s an easy fix of adding more fluid but for a good while there before I opened the hood I was baffled. Same as it ever was apparently.

I think they changed this in ‘96 or so. My ‘97 Impreza had just the one tank and two pumps (but a curious divot in the drivers’ side taillight where the rear reservoir filler used to go).

My ‘03’s rear sprayer only works sporadically. I’m pretty sure the pump works, but the nozzle clogs and unclogs itself at random.

I remember this strange design. I use a lot of washer fluid though so Its never a whole year before I was out.

At first I thought you meant it had two washer tanks. Some older Subarus, such as the SVX, had separate front and rear washer tanks.

I believe the newer Subarus still use two pumps, but I’m not sure if the rear is higher than the front (I don’t usually let my washer fluid get that low, so I don’t know off hand).

Gotta keep that windshield clean.

That is an ingenious little safety feature. It doesn’t really matter if you can’t clean off the back window, but it does matter if you can’t clean the windshield. If you can’t spray the back window you know you need washer fluid, but are still able to clean the windshield.
