Very odd - the farthest-forward gear slider, instead of engaging drive, engages an almost-drive ratio right off the layshaft as a step down/step up. I can’t think of any reason to do it that way except limited space at the top shaft. So, this is a trans with no reverse(?), three speed, straight-cut gears in all but one ratio, limited mainshaft space (common sump?) and no 1:1 drive. Yeah, jokish peanut car like an Isetta would be my guess, but which one...

You’re getting close! This car has no reverse in the typical sense of the word. You start the engine in reverse to go backwards.
