I’m sick with an virus, and I just thought of doing an autocross in the student parking lots on the weekends. It can be single most stupid idea one can think of. I can probably find a few instructors and someone to sponsor us. Full SCCA rules with Helmets.
This is a bad idea. But this is completely separate from the leadership class, so I have freedom, and so far no administrators have caught on to how ambitious (stupid) we are at times. We’ve hosted 2 adventure drives (we also unintentionally tested someone ABS on a narrow roads). It’s really easy to rent out the parking lot on the weekends....and I probably need to draw up some NDAs.
Technically, Leadership cannot engage in any “auto racing events”. For Clubs, it’s a grey area no one has tested. Time for me to do so.

When I was in college, our SAE chapter hosted autocrosses a couple times a year on campus. They did it in cooperation with the local SCCA chapter. It was a great setup, because the SCCA guys ran the event, students all got to participate, and their members got to participate as well. I liked having those guys there to learn from, rather than just a bunch of dumb kids who didn’t know what we were doing.
I will never forget one particular student. He was a dude from Japan who drove a stock early 90’s Caprice. The way that dude could hustle that boat through the twisties was nothing short of astounding.

It’s not a bad idea, but you should go about it properly. Which means getting SCCA help in being sanctioned, insured, etc...which all runs up cost. Surely there’s an SCCA group near you that you can work with to have a safe event.

If you chalk it up to be “driver safety training” then it’s not an auto racing event.

I’ll be talking to the local SCCA club on making an auto cross. No cost for facility and all things I can approve through the school
