My vote goes again to the 2006-2013 Impala.
And since kinja is being a dick, use this link.

Side note: I saw a car carrier full of these still wrapped last month. Looked brand new. Are they still being produced for fleets or something?

I believe they’re still being built solely for rental fleets

The first Generation Focus. I absolutely hated them when they came out, now I think that a 2003 SVT Focus is one of my favorite cars.

Yup. They go mostly to the Enterprise group and government agencies. Then after a year they wind up in auctions. One dealer we work with has like 200 of them on the lot.

As long as we are dicussing the hatchback and not the wagon, I can get behind this.

What engines do they come with? Is it the newer version with the 3.6, or the old 3.9? New old Impala, cheap (I would imagine because auction), with the 3.9 would be great.

See, I like the 2 door hatch and the full wagon. The 5 door hatch is just awkward

3.6, the 3.9 is dead. Thank god. That thing is a turd

Yep, the “Impala Limited.”

They did the same sort of thing with the Malibu when it was redesigned. The “Malibu Classic” sold alongside the new style for a couple of years.

3.6. They're all going for around $12-15k depending on equipment level and mileage.

The W-Body should have died a long time ago.

I don't mind either hatch. The sedan I could live with I guess, but I'm not really sold on the wagon in any way shape or form.

True enough. Still, I'm talking about how the styling has grown on me, not about the archaic underpinnings.

E60 5 series. Hated it with a passion when it came out. Now I think Bangle was a genius.

Too bad the 2006-2013 Impala is a miserably terrible car.

I wouldn't call it pretty, but I think you're right.

I agree its not pretty but I think its definitely gotten better over time, especially in wagon form.

Like most cars, it depends entirely on the trim level. LTZ w/3.9 was quite nice. Simple, comfortable, competent, and most importantly had the spoiler. Normal rental spec was terrible on ALL THE LEVELS, though ocasionally they got one that was a little less bargin basement.

No. All GM 60 degree V6’s are shit.

They make crap power, use an iron block, and are generally affixed to some of the worst cars ever made by GM.

They make brilliant torque and feel/sound great in operation (from factory)
The only downside here is weight. However: Iron block means more durable, and the weight of the iron block is largely offset by the fact that it’s a compact OHV engine. Like the SBC and all derivatives thereof.
That’s not it’s fault.

The 60 degree V6 is not a small block derivative.
1. Canted Valve heads (more akin to BBC)
2. 60 degree banks
3. Smaller bore centers.
4. Even fire engine, not 18436572

I realize that. However the fact that it is a cam in block OHV design (like the SBC) gives it the the same packaging and weight advantages over SOHC or DOHC engines that the SBC has.
When I said "derivatives" I was trying to include all generations of SBC. Some people get pissy if you refer to an LS as an SBC, for example.
