Ugh. I still can’t believe that cars like that are on the road of an industrialized nation.

Every time I see a car like this on a U.S. road I get more offended about all the hoops foreign makers have to jump through to get onto U.S. roads.
U.S. road legal.
U.S. federally illegal.
You guys and gals are taking the pi55.

There’s an Aspire joke in here somewhere.

The Aspire is only legal in states without safety inspections, I would wager. Even then, it only takes the right state patrol officer to pull it over and do a roadside inspection on it to get the registration revoked.

Which only begs the question ‘why don’t all states have safety inspections?’

Wow......that is insane. I wouldn’t drive in a place where things like that are allowed on the roads!!!

This car is a good argument for inspections.

Fuck that. You let them do mandatory safety inspections, then they’ll want to do mandatory emissions testing. Both of which will just fuck poor people who can’t necessarily afford vehicles that would pass emissions or safety (without being as sketchy as this Aspire) and in rural states like mine you often don’t have any options for public transportation.

Your face is a good argument to shut up.

Well, I am a bit homely. I don’t see what that has to do with anything.

I don’t like mandatory vehicle inspections. Mostly because I have been poor and had to drive sketchy shit to go to work and pay for a roof over my head.
Drove it all summer with no floor and the zip-tied headlight.

Ah! I get it now.
I’ve had some sketchy rides myself. They were usually scrapped shortly after getting Title in my name though.

Being poor isn’t a great reason for driving a death trap or letting them. There are many poor in the U.K. That drive poorly maintained vehicles that still pass tests. Public transport isn’t perfect everywhere in the U.K. And often if you live out in the countryside, your pretty much screwed except for the occasional bus (sometimes only twice a week and funded by local communities in partnership with local authorities).
