One day I dream of buying one of these, in decrepit condition, and going all out on it. I believe they put a 289 in the later Tigers so I’m thinking that means there is enough room to put something more modern and more powerful in there.

Yeah, I think most of the Tigers for got a 260 or a 289, so you could fit most any small block in there. How about a Voodoo out of the new GT350? 8400rpm V8 in a Tiger...that would be sick.

Cool ambition. I hope you get to do it.

It's just a dream right now but I'm not going to dream too far out. By the time I can afford this I may be able to find a totaled Ecoboost Mustang at a decent price. If I remember from previous research that setup would put out just shy of double the horsepower of the original Tiger before any tuning.

At one point I had found a good prospect. Needed tons of sheet metal work but had a good frame, then my daily driver blew up. One day though.

These things are awesome! My next door neighbor had one in British Racing Green. He restored it back in the 80’s, back when these were cheap. I think he bought it for $900, restored it in his garage over a winter, and sold it for somewhere in the low teens.
Yes, they did put a 289 in some of the last of them. The bodies are a little ... Floppy. You’ll have to cage it if you’re going to add much more power.

I figured if I get the chance to do it I will be going all out. Strip it to the frame and reinforce everything. Also I think the cage is necessary no matter what if you value your life.
