Normally a red tie means the boss is above your level. That guy must have some really l33t gear.

Didn’t know a red tie meant superiority in the work place.

It was a joke based on MMO creature title/health bar/whatever color coding. In other words, I was expanding on the “boss fight” joke in the strip.

Don’t worry, I understood what you were getting at. I got you.

Something Joel and co. were known to say back during the writing sessions for MST3K: “The right people will get this”.

More stuff like EverQuest and WoW. Everquest ca. 2009:
if they are RED then they are 4+ levels higher than you
if they are YELLOW they are 1-3 levels higher than you
if they are WHITE they are the same level as you
if they are DARK BLUE they are 1-5 levels lower than you
if they are LIGHT BLUE they are 6-10 levels lower than you
if they are GREEN they are 11-15 levels lower than you (you gain a very small amount of xp from green con mobs)
if they are GRAY they are 16 or lower than you and you wont gain XP from their death.

I wear seven red ties at work, at the same time. Nobody is brave enough to make eye contact. I come in to work for an average of 45 minutes a day, and I’ve gotten 3 raises since May.

This isn’t germane, really, but it’s the first explicit “fight the boss” thing I remember seeing on line. I think it was Adobe Director and in the 90’s sometime?
