The Willys has been taking up space in the garage while I piddle around with re-sealing the transfer case and finding the location of its oil leak(s). Also, I have overheating issues on the highway. I’m thinking it’s because air is going around the radiator rather than through, and I’m open to suggestions for making a removable radiator shroud.

Have you already tried fitting an electric fan?
Or you could try a taller radiator:

Wait a minute! You’re telling me you own a flat fender jeep? How did I not know about this?

Everything else with the cooling system up to snuff? Coolant level, WP condition, etc?

1) CJ3Bs are the inbred cousin of the Jeep world
2) It has two big puller fans that site behind the radiator with a shroud around them. Unfortunately there’s not shroud between the grille and radiator.

Because I’m a terrible person and you are a turrible person.

Coolant is good, water pump is good. it gets over 210 on the highway, but as soon as I’m stopped or in residential traffic it cools right back down.

Has it still got the stock engine?

Yeah, sounds like an airflow issue then. You might be able to rig a cardboard shroud just to test it for $0. I was just spitballing the coolant idea in case it was moving too fast in the radiator with the WP spinning at highway speeds.
Stock WP pulley, right?

It’s an underdrive pulley but on a high volume pump from what I remember. You think I need a non-overdrive pulley?

Er, no. 302ci Ford, but the radiator should be more than up to the task (Griffin aluminum radiator).

Just curious, why are you using the HV pump with an underdrive pulley?
How expensive/how much of a PITA is it to go back to stock on both?

The HV pump had a long-enough neck to clear the rest of the accessories on the front, and the March pulley was the only one of a few ordered that had the belts line up correctly. Now that you mention it I might start looking for a non-underdrive pulley as well as make a shroud for the radiator/grille.

You might be able to use a regular flow pump with a fan spacer for clearance too.
Do you have a pic of the engine bay? Sorry, I’m not well versed in Willys stuff.

The best one I have right now, which doesn’t really show anything. I might take the grille and fenders off to get some better pics this weekend.

Looks nice! I dig the rod ended alternator tensioner.

Neat looking but bad design. It doesn’t provide any lateral support so the alternator just kind of flops back and forth as the engine vibrates. I need some additional bracing on there.
