Didn’t Audi trot around something similar a few years ago?

Ok, so a turbo with the electric motor directly coupled, instead of an electric pump storing air in a tank. I’m not sure which is better from an efficiency/response standpoint.

POWER PULSE ALL THE THINGS!!
I like how it’s so simple of a design that it hasn’t been implemented in other engines that could benefit from a larger turbo without sacrificing the low end response. Sure, there are more parts that require servicing with this design so I guess that could be a drawback for engineers who are given already strict requirements for cost, reliable, performance, and whatever else. Go get ‘em, Volvo.
