Hey Opponauts. I finally came around to the idea of posting on Oppositelock. I’ve begun to realize my fantasy of living out the car-guy dream so it’s maybe time I started putting some posts out there into the car world.
Yeah, I know a lot of car guys don’t name their cars, but I do. My current daily is T’pol - a 2011 Lancer Ralliart. It has some light mods (lighter wheels, boost pill, drop in filter, GST basemap v3.1) but the plan is to eventually get her up to ~400whp. I’d be pretty happy with 380 but even that will likely require new clutches. That won’t be until at least next summer.
I’m a New Englander at heart (which is where I bought my car) but I now live in the SF Bay Area area. I get to travel a lot. In the last year, I’ve spent close to four months in Scotland for work. I wish I could say that I get to drive lots of interesting things there, but so far it’s been a snooze. I rented a “Sport Car” from Sixt and they gave me a Peugeot 308 (1.5 diesel) that had a 50-70 time of around a million seconds. I rented another car from Avis that was so boring that I can’t even remember what it was. Might have been a Skoda. All I know is, they wouldn’t let me have the C4 Cactus and I wasn’t happy about that.
I went to F1 Singapore this year (timed it up with a work trip so all I had to purchase was race tickets). It was a great time but the turbocharged cars sound kind of boring. I also got a ride in a $90,000 Uber car there. Unfortunately, it was a $90,000 Toyota Corolla. They have a S$70,000 “Certificate of Entitlement” and roughly 100% tax on every car.
I also dabble a bit with auto-photography so I’ll post things when I have the chance. This Jaguar photo was taken one night this summer at about 1am on the way back to my flat in Glasgow. I’ve driven the F-Type about 4 times now in all the flavors. Someday, F-Type, someday - you will be mine. It’s a hard car NOT to get obsessed with. I saw one on the way home tonight and the guy was giving it (V6s) all the auditory sex he could muster. What a great thing that the car exists at all.

Welcome to Oppo! It’s nice to see there’s another fellow Opponaut from the Bay Area. Which part are you residing?
Also, I never got the memo about car guys not naming their cars. My car’s name is Sophie.

Welcome! I also just joined as a poster (yesterday) and I’m in the South Bay.
Is there a significant community for modding non-Evo Lancers? Or are you going into unchartered territory?

Welcome! I’ve named all my cars, with the exception of a Mazda6 I bought last month and am “flipping”. T’pol was a bad-ass so that seems suitable, despite her addiction problem.

Ralliart has a pretty good modding group for it. Most Evo parts bolt right on engine-wise. Suspension wise, it’s similar to the GS and there’s okay availability there as well.

Haha. That’s why I chose it. T’Pol was a rational person - calm and collected (below 4k RPM) and a raging lunatic (above 4k RPM).

Oh nice! I didn’t know about this one. I had heard about the one in Walnut Creek but it’s at 6:30am or some nonsense :)

There’s also another one at the Blackhawk Auto Museum in San Ramon the first Sunday of every month, good mix of old cars and new. Super crowded though.

I am with you on the F-Type, buddy.
I was living in the US with enough money saved up to get one. Then, a bad luck with immigration meant I had to leave. And I still gotta keep a job, which is in Singapore. For now, at least.
But I’m definitely getting the F-Type as soon as I can.
So this is day two of me in Singapore, another day of not driving lol And I was trying to find what Oppo has on Singapore. If you ever get a chance to lease/rent/steal the F-Type, do it for me DO it for OPPO!!! lol
