This post serves no purpose except for me to go all SQUEE!!! about my new garage. The house it’s attached to is pretty cool too.
The BRZ is a short car, but that’s still a LOT of space in front of it. My fiancee’s Flex will fit with tons of room to spare.
Another view from the other corner. That’s two, count ‘em, TWO workbenches that come with it.
Workbench #1 (plus cabinets).
Workbench #2.
This is where Harry Potter lives I’ll store my extra wheels and tires.
So if I’m not around much for the next month or so, it’s because I’m moving. And lost in the garage. Probably working on the Comanche that’s getting delivered Thursday.

Congrats! That looks very nice, I’ve always wanted a finished garage! (My garage is finished. I mean, not like with drywall and stuff, but it has 4 walls and a roof that doesn’t leak, and heat, so it’s done, but not finished...)

Wife and I are house shopping now, and two of the three houses highest on our list don’t have garages. Super Sad Panda over here if I have to settle for a shed or less.

We were super lucky to find something in the town where her kids already go to school with a garage like this.

Wow. Looks like you could almost fit a 2 post lift in there. And so well lit too.

tires and wheels up high, that space is perfect for a compressor so it can be a bit muffled

Congrats on the new house/garage. One question, why the posts in the garage? Is the home a split level with a main floor above? I can’t remember seeing too many homes with such a set up. Just curious.

A lot of houses don’t have garages in New England and I find that odd. We bought the only house in our price point, mostly because it had a garage.

There’s an in-law apartment above the garage, which limits height for a lift. Also, the lighting is mostly my flash and the just opened garage doors. There is more light but I haven’t figured out how to turn it on yet. This place has lots of switches that appear to do nothing, and lots of lights that can’t seem to be turned on...

Good point! Put a door or something on the Potter closet and that’ll muffle the sound more.

Here’s the big picture.
There’s an in-law apartment above the garage, so I’m guessing the extra structure up there is what needs the extra support. The posts in the middle aren’t optimum, but each side is wide enough to have room to work. If I park where I did tonight (I’ll get a wheel chock), even the BRZ’s wide doors open wide without hitting anything on either side.

We got very lucky. Kind of the same way we got lucky finding a certain Jeep that will spend some time in this garage. :)

I like our two car but if it was a two car with space to actually work, like yours, that would be amazing.

We added one to our house via an FHA loan over like 7 years. I built a pretty great 24x24 garage for the price of a new Civic. Had enough room for my Yota pickup, my wife’s civic, 4 motorcycles, my tool chest, work bench, couch, love seat, refrigerator, snow tire rack, and a humongous set of super strong and capacious shelves. Pick the place with space to build your own awesome garage.

Oh, ok. The apartment over the garage explains the stairs going up next to the garage door. I wonder if the garage was an addition after the home was built, as areas above the garage typically don’t need that type of bracing. Either way, happy home ownership, it looks like a nice house on a big yard with lots of trees (and a bajillion leaves).

You bet this is the garage setup I want when I get a house. Don’t want it separated like that though.

Whats even stranger are the homes built in the 50 and 60’s have the smallest garage spaces. Really weird considering the size of the cars back then.

That is a sweet ass garage! So much room even with your car pulled in. Enjoy it in good health.
So those support beams in the middle, is that a common design? I’ve only ever seen it in forums where guys from the northeastern US post their pictures. I’ve never seen garages like that in California before.

Thanks! I’m not sure if it’s just a northeast thing. The house I grew up in, with a two car garage, also had posts down the middle. I haven’t traveled enough to see garages in other parts of the country, so I don’t actually know.

Yeah, my house was built in the 20’s and had a garage added in the 80’s.

Nonsense, haven’t you ever heard of a reciprocating saw? Or chain saw? Mom in law would just LOVE a big metal frame occasionally popping up through the floor in the living room :)
