Can mufflers also be intakes?

What in all the Earth’s fucks is going on in the third picture?

Engi-fuckineering.

I'd say the shell of the muffler has been bolted directly to the intake. Not so sure it's going to work on a carbureted setup, though. Doesn't a carb have to be upstream from the turbo?

Come at me bro

Well, think about it. If turbo boost is made with exhaust, and mufflers put out exhaust, and we put an intake where the muffler should be and vice versa, we’d get VTEC to turn on almost 1k RPM before it’s supposed to, leading to a 50% increase in fuel efficiency!
The next step of course, is to just route the exhaust gasses back into the engine for cooling purposes, but the technology for that isn’t ready to exist yet.

This looks like some actual engineering happened though.

...genius! The earlier the VTEC the better :]

I would, if I weren’t afraid you would explode
![]() 11/30/2015 at 16:03 |

no, you can run a blow-through set up. I would say that is actually the normal way to do it, although it is my understanding that turbo’s and carbs don’t play nicely together in general

Huh. whodathunkit
I thought carbs needed vacuum from the bottom as opposed to prussure from the top.

they need air velocity through their venturi’s to create a pressure differential and draw fuel.
I suspect the issue is with the variability of pressure and temperature of that intake airstream.

Mufflers can be whatever you want them to be; even your friend.

How in the......?

I think thats actually a pretty clever use of a muffler to build a boost box. If it is on something like a lemons racer, why not?

No comment on the cancer turbo?

I am too baffled by what is going on there to even respond. What is that stuff? Its like the elephant man was reincarnated as that turbo.

I think I know what happened.
“V-bands? Pfft, those cost a fortune. I’ll just use my stick welder and these two completely separate alloys of varying thickness to bind them together forever. What could wrong?”
“OH SHIT THAT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! Oh god. This... this looks...you know what? More welds. Yeah, that’s what this needs.”
“Fuuuuuuck, now it’s even worse! Okay. Don’t panic. All I need to do is just....keep welding. It can’t get any worse than it is right now, and who knows, it might do a 180 and start improving if I just put more welds on it!”
“...I...I’m done. With welding. And turboing. And living. May god have mercy on my horrible and sullen soul.”
*jumps off cliff*
