I can’t believe I’m the one saying this, but something needs to be done or else new manufacturers simply won’t join because they would need too much money, time and resources to prepare.

Nissan was hastey, only prepared for about 1.8 years and they got destroyed.

BMW would like to join but they don’t want to do all the catch up.

Lamborghini would like to join but Audi would hit it with a stick if it did.

Ferrari and FCA can’t make up their mind, because they’re Italians.

The perspective of a Jaguar involvement is gone because Tata are assholes.

And Hyundai ? Please, they can’t even build a championship winning rally car, yet.

So you’re saying that these race cars, whose purpose is to put new technologies to the test, should be simpler?

No, I’m saying that the rules should be tweaked to offer some sort of advantages to rookie teams, to help them become competitive much faster.

Smaller teams can join LMP2. LMP1 need not change.

Except LMP2 is essentially meant for privateers, not for manufacturers.

Look, I don’t know what to tell you. WEC is a difficult, expensive game. You’d have to be out of your mind if you want to compete in the WEC, let alone LMP, your first try. You’d have to start with smaller races, earn some money, increase the size of your team, then you take a stab at the WEC.

I feel like Ferrari is too committed to Formula 1 and the GTE classes. I’d love for Jaguar to return but I’d honestly prefer it to be GTE or GT3 instead of a P1.

I think there is something to be said for having a place where the big boys play. Winning is hard. It needs to be hard. The current teams have put in the time, expense and effort to be where they are.

Success can be had by those who join later. Look at Porsche. Sure there may have been some Audi info transfer, but that was a new car, using a different philosophy and it won the championship in year 2. What is keeping BMW back is not so much the advert on to putting in the effort, but the fact that they don’t want to mess with electric hybrids. They are more interested in fuel cells and want the ACO/FIA to build a rule set that allows for them.

So goes the cycle of every decade. The cars win. Others compete the next year, try to outdo the last. They go faster. Introduce new tech. Go faster again. Get way more expensive, and way faster. Then they get banned. And two years later, someone else has figured out a winning formula, and the cycle begins anew.

Group C, Prototype, GT1, LMP-GT, etc, etc.

But this thing sure does look bitchin.

You are going to have to start to compete in either GT or LMP2. There is little room in LMP1 for start-ups.

Look Group C collapsed because the cars got too expensive.

When the racing is down to one or two winners and everyone else is an “also ran”, LMP1 will collapse from a lack of interest. Sponsors will stop supporting the cars, and even VW’s nigh bottomless pockets will not be deep enough when NO ONE CARES ANYMORE.
