Just noticed why my car is leaking so bad around the weatherstripping. It’s not the stripping itself, but I think it’s getting in through this awful gap between the top and the frame. Most miatas I’ve seen have the top more or less flush with the middle of the weatherstripping. Is this what the “tension cable” does? Both sides are identical.

Did you try tightening the latches?

The latches only affect fitment of the top to the windshield frame, sadly.

Then it's the tension cable. All I can say is, good luck. Messing with the top sucks.

Hmm. That’s what I was thinking. Isn’t that riveted in place or something? now that I remembered what it’s called I suppose I can google it, lol

The whole top is riveted in along the back, so that's fun. We replaced the one on mine when it did exactly this.

The whole top or just the cables?

We did the whole top, because we got a really good deal on a perfect tan one. You can probably replace the cables though.

I’ve never attempted working on a Miata top before but is it possible to adjust that little bit of weatherstripping?
