Far and away my least favorite part of my Mustang is the seats. Fox-bodies aren’t well known for supportive or particularly durable seats, and the blue cloth ones in my ‘86 LX are probably the least supportive Fox-body seats I’ve had (they are, however, in fantastic condition).
Concurrently to the Mustang, I’ve got a Saturn SL2 that’s going to be a crapcan racer, but on which I’ve been hesitant to spend any money...particularly on a racing seat or cage.
But that got me thinking, with the Mustang a more regular driver, all of a sudden a $400 investment in a racing seat doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. That’s why, having sold about $1100 worth of stuff on eBay this past week, I decided to pull the trigger and grab this guy:
That’s a Corbeau FX1, and because I’m a big fat bastard, I bought the wide model. That works though, because two of my three crapcan teammates are also gentlemen of shall we say generous proportions. My dad is small, so he’ll have to deal.
The one thing I’ve heard with this seat is that I won’t be able to use the console in my Mustang, and I’m totally fine with that. I love the look of a Fox with no console, which is even better with the big damn shift lever I put in there.
Mostly, I’m just looking forward to driving the Mustang without my seat flexing and feeling like it’ll break whenever I get on it. That’ll be a big upgrade, and it’ll let me start working on the Saturn, which is nice.
So happy Black Friday to me, Oppo!
