I should have known. I bought a super cheap beater off of my brother, a brother that cannot(read:is too dull to) maintain a car. I decided today I would give it its first oil change, and finally replace the plugs and plug wires. Biggest mistake I could have made, it went from running somewhat fought to, well holy shit.

Check the ignition wires - maybe one’s loose or something. Otherwise, it’ll be a bad earth*.

*I’m batting about .8 with that diagnosis of anything a bit weird.

What kind of car? Any chance you got the wires wrong and messed up the firing order? No reason that new plugs and an oil change should fuck it up like that.

Changing the oil couldn’t of done anything that I can think of, so it has to be something related to the plugs. I have never had a DOA spark plug, but I am sure it is possible. Check the firing order. If that is OK, then check to make sure each plug is actually firing.

Double check your firing order. Maybe plug wires got crossed?

I took it all apart and made sure everything was tight and everything was in the proper place. It's not good right now.

You know, I never thought that maybe a plug could be bad from the get go. I was thinking I may need to buy a new coil pack.

2001 Ford Taurus with a Duratec. I took the plugs out and replaced the wires one by one. When it first acted like that I triple and quadruple checked everything to make sure it was all correct. I'm thinking it may need a new coil pack.

Coil pack is a good guess, maybe something broke in one of the connectors when you were pulling a wire off it.

That's my best guess, plus when I pulled one of the plugs out it looked horrid.

It’s not old enough to have a mechanical ignition system, is it? If not, I’d check and double check your earth points and cables.

No it is not, while toying with it later I may check that all out.

I would. It’s amazing how many electrical problems seem to have that as the root cause.
