I was making some really good progress on a car, when all of a sudden Windows throws a BSOD at me. I reboot my computer only to find out my file is corrupted.
Again, fuck me.

I’ve been editing a major post for Aviation History, spending about an hour tweaking a word here, a word there, and Firefox crashed and dumped all of it. I don’t know what the fuck Mozilla is up to these days, but FF crashes about once a day on me, usually in the middle of something really important.
I’m sorry for your loss.

Server with all my work went down this afternoon at work. It was the longest hour of my life since I lost everything for another huge project the last time this happened. By the grace of God it returned and I only lost an hour’s progress.

Used to bring my PC up on the first Monday of the month, boot in safe mode, schedule a disk check and reboot. 99% of the time, nothing was wrong. 1% something needed tweaking. Dunno why.
Then I’d run the sector analysis once every 6 months over a weekend.
That doesn’t mean it’s the problem here, but I had many years of good running on the same disk with those errors never getting a chance to multiply.
Keeping my disk clean [sic] seemed like a good idea. Do the same on the Macs with DiskWarrior.

Well. I believe that you have automatic backups for important files. Right? If not. I recommend having it and doing it manually every once in a while just to be sure.
Also. Fuck Windows’ BSOD.

I had this happen a few times. One way around this is to save iteratively and have a mirror on a cloud app. My file structure kind of looks like this;
My3DThing_001.blend
My3DThing_002.blend
My3DThing_003.blend
So on and so on. I also hit F5 every 15 minutes or so while making a new iteration when I feel major changes have occurred.

Because I prefer the way FF looks and functions over the other options. I’ve got years invested in bookmarks and other organizational things (I know I can export). Basically, for something that I use every day, I prefer it. I have made dedicated efforts to use Safari or Chrome, but always come back to FF. The thing is, it only ever seems to crash when I’m typing in Kinja. I guess I need to do my typing in Word (or pretty much anywhere else), then copy and paste.
