Like that time we drove these ugly jeeps through some icy rivers.

I see the guy on the left brought one of the tablets the 10 Commandments were written on.

I am genuinely surprised. And as for ugly, I hate the standard model, but for some reason I actually like the looks of the Trailhawk. It's got a GTI-effect thing going on.

The trailhawk looks great from every angle except directly from the side.

One of my rules is that if there are more than one person filming, I get out and double check what I’m about to do..

Not...a bad rule actually.

yes...let those fools break the ice for me, let their diffs get cold. Soon it will be the season of the CJ...soon it will come to pass.

How’d the KLs hold up for you? I hear they’re quite competent off-road, except for clearance issues.
There’s still so much butthurt on the Patriot forums over the KL... They still call it “Cherokar”, while unironically driving their FWD-based Patriots.

I was very impressed with it off road, not that we really pushed it too far. The moral of the story with the KL is that traction wont be an issue, approach and departure angles wont be the issues. Basically its just hung up on the rockers that’s going to stop you. I hear you can get a slightly bigger tire on there without a lift and there are a few places that you can get rock rails. The moral of the story is that its 100% as capable as a vehicle in this class should be. If you need more, you are in the wrong class.
Also, LOL patriot owners bagging on ANY car.

I own a Patriot, and it’s good for what it is... but yeah, no delusions.
I wonder how a Cherokee with a more top-end power would fare as a rally car...

Something that never made sense to me; the point of the 3.2 pentastar. Its the same physical dimensions as the 3.6 (the 3.2 is just a debored 3.6) so why not just put the more powerful engine in it so it can get to a taller gear faster? The ZF 9hp48 can handle the torque from the bigger engine. SRT6 version I guess.
Nothing against Patriots, BTW, I’ve always had a softspot for a FDII patriots, especially with a little lift.

I have a hypothesis on that: I’m assuming its all about emissions. Not that the 3.2 would get better fuel mileage per se, but that the total volume of emissions is lower because there’s less displacement, all to help bump the brand’s EPA numbers. I mean, Jeep’s lineup is not the most fuel efficient, which is offset by Fiat, Dodge, and Chrysler to some extent, but since EPA figures are important to image and marketing, Jeep needs to be able to save some face on its own... (which is another reason the Patriot/Compass are still good to have on the roster for the time being).
That, or it’s like GM’s rule of “nothing we sell can go faster than a Corvette”; maybe a KL with the 3.6 was pushing into Grand Cherokee performance envelope a bit too much, and since the premium on a Grand is much higher, they’d be losing sales to a smaller, less-expensive Jeep.
Just guessing, I have no idea how marketing minds operate.

There are a lot of guessing, including fuel consumption as the main one...but I think its nuts all the same. Also, these things have PATHETIC range, which is their one glaring weakness for overlanding.
15.8 gallon tank. Which is fine if you are cruising along the highway with no load, no wind and no hills, but if you are trying to off road, tow or go up...a hill...then its unacceptable.
This test netted 11-12 mpg towing a ~1500 lbs teardrop. That’s AT BEST 189 miles range. I guess I can’t complain because its no better than I get, but at least I have a 26 gallon tank and double the payload and clearance.

Hey, 15.8 is a step up from the Patriot’s 13.5. But not with the V6 much thirstier, or course.
I don’t get why they went with small tanks either. Makes zero practical sense, other than lowering the overall weight of the vehicle, but shit...
