Found a flash drive I didn’t recognize last night in my room so I plugged it in to find a whole bunch of pictures from last year when my grandfather and I took our cars to a big show last summer. I didnt know I had these pics but some were pretty cool so I though I’d share.

Early morning at the show, Miss Taboo and my 33 getting all set for the day.

I dont know who took this pic because my grandpa and I are in the car cruising, with the exhaust uncorked :)

This is probably my best and favorite shot of the motor in Taboo that I have.

Holy shit, that carb setup though. That alone is a work of art.

It was worth the headache it caused. It actually runs quite well. I've got some videos on my YouTube channel of it running

A show car has to have a flashy induction setup lol.

How fun is that setup to tune? I can tell by the distributor that it’s probably a lot of fun.

I’m sure it’s awesome, I’ll have to find them.

Yeah your limited on the timing adjustment before having to move wires, but luckily it didn’t need much after the initial fire up. The motor though is extremely cold blooded. Plus this motor should actually be in a race car. It's running 11:1 compression, has a full race cam, gear drive. The thing really gets with the program.

That’s awesome. I love crazy induction setups, but it always kills me a little inside when I see something cool like that and it’s stuck on a plain jane run of the mill ZZ4 crate motor or something. Part of the muscle car panache is having something that’s just barely streetable.

I understand that feeling, I can tell you though this motor is barley streetable. It’s a high compression, big cam, gear driven, 1964 327ci small block, plus it’s a 4 speed car too. Though with 6x2s you really need a docile motor for it. They become really finicky when placed on a really hot motor.

That sounds like such an awesome setup. I love 327’s (and 302’s even more, though only the Chevy variety). But I’m sure those 6x2s can be a pain. I have no experience with carb tuning, and only a little with EFI.

But when I do a project car I’d like to do ITBs. You know, because I hate myself.

Yeah the 327 and 302 are screamers. The trick with tuning 6x2s is to dial in the middle 2 carbs because those are your primary driving carbs, the front and back are secondaries and only in use when wide open due to progressive linkage.

Makes sense. I’ve heard they aren’t often as terrible as people make them out to be, its just a bit tedious, takes some trial and error to get them dialed in.

I hear mechanical fuel injection is the absolute worst to get right so that it’s drivable.

Well the complaints hold value with multi carb setups because most use old Stomberg 94s or 97s as the carburetor and they are junk carbs even brand new ones they are just a terrible design but they are compact so you can run multiple carb setups and still have space to adjust.

On our setup we made adapters to use the Rochester 2GC carb. Much better running carb but it is also bigger. To tune the middle carbs in the car we had to pull the front carbs off and then put a block of plate on the intake and cap the fuel lines.,

On mechanical fuel injection. Unless is a factor ran jet or flattop unit off a corvette, it's not streetable. Even the factory corvette stuff is hard to get right.

Good call on the 2GCs, sounds like a pretty trick setup.

There are a few guys out there who specialize in tuning the old Rochester fuelie units for the old Corvettes and they get big dollars to perform their voodoo magic. Because I think that’s what the old mechanical setups operated on... voodoo.

I read a really great article in Hot Rod one time about this guy who has a very streetable gasser with a Kinsler 8 throttle body unit with mechanical injection. They detailed the process of what it took the owner to get the car driveable and it was insane. He probably had a few hundred man hours just in driving and tuning his setup. Its no wonder nobody wants to mess with it on street cars.

That and most of this old mechanical sets were also never intended or designed for street use, only drag cars and some road racers. For the amount of work needed it's better to modify the old units to add electronics to them while retaining the awesome look of mechanical fuel injection.

Agreed. At some point in the next couple years, after the Ms. and I buy a house, I’d like to pick up a project car. I love the look of ITBs but the only way I’m doing it is using modern EFI. There are some super trick setups where you can bury most of the stuff down in the manifold so it’s pretty hard to tell.
