Sick.

I want to get another bike sooo bad. Probably going to wait till after buying a house, though. But I’m thinking about a Monster, I’ve always loved the look of them. How did you like it? How was maintenance (is it is bad as every says on Ducs)?

Nice looking Monster you had there.

Maintenance was actually pretty simple. This is a 2008 Monster 695 w/ the 2v heads. The valves only needed adjustment every 7500 miles and mine were barely out of spec at 7500, then in spec for the next 28k miles. The 4v bikes like the 899, 1199, Multi, Diavel, etc now have recommended valve intervals of 15k miles.

The ones you need to watch out for are the old 916’s. Their rocker arms had an issue with the coatings flaking off and then breaking. They also require adjustments every 3500 miles and if you don’t have a whole kit of shims, you might be making multiple trips to the Ducati dealer trying to get the right sizes.

On the modern Ducs maintenance shouldn’t be an issue, even compared to the Japanese bikes.

I would love to spam the crap out of this with my 10 bikes that have come and gone, but I am away for work. Have a few on my phone. Just sold the Beemer. Taking the klr on the tras lab next summer. Currently on the hunt for a naked mid-weight.

Gotcha, I’ve heard all kinds of horror stories but a lot of them seemed overblown. I really like that older body style of monster. What I’d really like to get is an S4Rs if I can find a clean one. I used to ride a CBR1000RR so I think I might be able to handle it... (famous last words)

Nice bikes! Have any mid weights in mind?

You would definitely be able to. The S4RS shares an engine with the 999 and most of the power is up top despite it being a twin. Guy I worked with at the Ducati dealer had an S4RS that was blueprinted w/ high comp pistons and it was roughly as fast as a GSXR750 from the same time period up until 130-140 and then the GSXR would pull away.

Surprising, I always thought they were a bit faster than that. Though I suppose the lack of aero kills them on the top end. I just want something fun to blast around on though. My other thought is getting a hypermotard and de-beaking it to make a nasty little street fighter...

Really undecided right now. Loved my 919 but always looking to try something new. Will likely look at budget friendly options like a fz, sv or z, with hopes of building a garage so I actually have a good place to work on them. Just going to keep my eye out over the winter and see what comes up
