My wife works near this house. I drive by it regularly and have always lusted after it’s copious garage and driveway space. I was sure it started out as a fire station, and it turns out I was right. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I know damn well we can’t actually afford it, but I will continue to fantasize about the possibilities.

That place is sweet. I’d totally buy that.

I sometimes think it would be nice to have a tree fall on my second garage so I can rebuild it tall enough to put a proper lift in it. There’s nothing wrong with that, right?

1900 sq feet for nearly 600 grand? Dag, Im glad I live where I live. I could build an additional 4 car garage and equip it nicely for half that here. If only I had even THAT kind of money

We could all give like 5K, and it would be like our frat house

Heh, and I had the exact opposite reaction. I’d kill for a property that size at anything like that price. A two-bed flat <1000sq ft is going to cost more than that round here. In fact, you could cover the mortgage and turn a profit just by renting out the parking spaces.

That’s about the same commute I have to my job in the north burbs already...

That has what estate agents here call ‘income generating potential’. How much could you make renting out self-storage units there?

It is a pretty big lot, even still its nice to know that even with a direct view of the mountains on half an acre I can still get 3000 sq feet for half the cost of a place like this.

You can have one lift.

As long as I have something to say whenever someone asks me if I even lift, bro.

Just wondering, how does the price change if you have 1500sq ft on a whole acre? I’d much rather have a smaller house and more space around it.
And I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, but half the price of that place is roughly the deposit on a 2-bed flat round here.

I doubt it’ll sell for that much, but you’re definitely buying the land and the garage space more than that house. That house on a normal lot with a normal garage would be about half this or less.

Praise Automotive used to be there.
Just look at all the room for activities!

Depending on zoning that may or may not be legal. This is a block away from the township office, where the building inspector works, so you won’t be getting away with anything hinky here.

Nothing wrong at all. I’ve often wished a tree would fall on my only garage, so I could build it properly.

Here larger lot sizes in the developed areas are harder to come by as much of the development has been done in tracts, but if you get outside the city a little an acre of land is pretty reasonably priced and building a 1500 sq ft home on it wouldn’t be an unattractively priced proposition. Long story short, itmight be harder to find but the costs wouldn’t be bad at all. At the bottom of this canyon, for example, I found a few .78-.90 acre lots for ~$70,000

Do you wanna go do karate in the garage?!
lol
I’ll actually be down that way on Thanksgiving, gf’s family is in Downers Grove. Might go drive past this place.

Sure! You’ll have to teach me karate though :)
It’s easily visible from the main road it’s on. You can check out all the fancy sculptured landscape too.

It’s on a very busy street close to a very desirable commercial area - Oakbrook. The real value is in the land. With only 2 bedrooms it makes a good bachelor/ young married pad. Play with your cars while you wait for some big developer to come in and offer you double.

Yep. My wife even likes the place, but we can’t affords it. The empty lot next to it is being sold separately.
