A friend of mine is a VW salesman. I asked him what kinds of deals were being made on GTIs and Golf R’s. He said his dealership has actually INCREASED OTD prices on those models specifically. They were told by management that while other models like the Golf and Jetta, which are more closely linked to the diesel scandal, and outgoing models like the Tiguan, are being sold at or just above dealer cost for minimal profit, the GTI and Golf R are still being sought out by customers who specifically want those cars. He didn’t outright say there was collusion among the dealers, but it was hinted that because everyone was taking such a major hit because of the diesels that they had decided to more or less band together and maximize profits for the still-desireable models.

Hence, locally a 2015 GTI SE manual with performance package is selling for $36,800. An Autobahn, DSG and no PP, is $37,200. The lone Golf R is now $41,800.

That’s insane, but he says they’re selling simply because better deals can’t be had.

So if VW can’t break out collective trust, we can always count on the dealers to do it!

/speaking generally

//whatever the market will bear

///would never pay over $27k for a GTI

I’m sorry to say this as I truly love the car but... $40k for a Golf R?!?!

That is a CP for sure.

Sorry. I was wrong.

$41,530. That’s about $300 less than what I originally wrote.

Charge what the market will bear, I suppose. My wife and I are in the market for a car to replace our ‘01 Golf, and I was going to at least look at the SportWagen. Assuming the camshaft doesn’t disintegrate.

haha even so. I might go up to around $36-37k but thats it for me on a Golf, no matter what drivetrain it has.

dont think of it like it a golf. think of it as a far more practical audi S3 with a stick. and really, thats what it is.
