It’s not even close. The Camaro just flat out demolishes the Mustang in every performance category
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:19 |

Why is this not bold? I think being louder at full throttle should be considered a win.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:23 |

Faster, lighter, more powerful, and better mpg!
Someone been hitting the gym!
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:23 |

Those were my thoughts. If there’s ever a time you want a car to be loud, it’s full throttle in a pony car (there's more than that, but this is the big one).
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:24 |

Why get either. According to the movie Drive, a
Chrysler 300
C can outrun a Mustang 5.0! I am sure you can find one for cheap! :)
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:25 |
|
That was my EXACT thought when I saw that.
‘The Camaro loses on sound...wait no that’s higher. That’s better, what the hell?’
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:27 |
|
It is a lot faster, that’s certain.
But I find it highly amusing that a .04g difference in skidpad and a .6 mph difference in slalom is “demolishing”. Same with a 1.5% curb weight difference.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:32 |
|
.04 g better is nothing to scoff at.
I was referring to the numbers where it was significantly faster: half a second faster to 60, one and a half seconds faster to 100, nearly a second faster in the quarter mile...
Not to mention C&D said it was significantly better to drive, numbers withstanding

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie, but google says it aired in 2011. Assuming it was a 2010 Mustang, that’s not far off. According to the internet, a Mustang GT will run the 1/4 mile in the mid 13 second range. A 300C comes in at low 14, high 13 seconds with the SRT8 at low 13s. So they’re not too far off.

The top gear acceleration differences is astounding.

Well, according to a certain Bond movie, a DB5 can hold off a Ferarri 355. So the message here is, if you want a REALLY fast car, get a fartcanned Civic.

Pushrod torque yo.
Or, alternatively from a hater: Well, what else would you expect from a truck engine?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:48 |

Not unexpected when the last gen 1LEs are already arguable better than the current gen 5.0 performance pack stangs #shartsfired
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:51 |

Doesn’t matter if it’s 0.6 mph or 10 mph, winning is winning bro
![]() 11/24/2015 at 08:52 |

Because people like quite things that naturally make loud noises lol. I don’t get it either. “I need the V8, but my wife doesn’t want to hear me go WOT on date night” .
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:04 |
|
2016 models, right? Looks like GM solved the Camaro’s biggest issue, which was its weight.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:18 |
|
Haha... if that were my wife I’d contemplate looking for a new one. I want the kind of woman who would be sad if I didn’t mash the loud pedal every now and then.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:22 |

You want weight problems, take a look at Ford.
Ford F150. Goes to aluminium construction to save a PILE of weight and ends up just a little lighter than the Silverado.
Mustang needs to lose weight to match the performance of the HEAVIER Camaro, gains even more.
(ok, ok, FCA blows them both off the map. Ram is heavier, Challenger is MUCH heavier. Still, in this context...)
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:27 |
|
Wait, is the Camaro really lighter than the Mustang? The Camaro is the size of the fucking Titanic.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:29 |

Most of the time, you can. She just won’t want to be in the car lol
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:30 |

I haven't gotten around to reading the article yet, I have the mag at home. I'm not really THAT surprised that the Camaro beat the Mustang though, with the accolades the Camaro has been getting. Two things that stand out to me. One, the Camaro comes with Runflats. Wonder if you would get even better numbers out of some better tires. And second, that quarter mile is within 3/10ths of needing a cage at the drag strip. It blows my mind that you can buy that kind of power in a car these days, not even counting the sub 4 second 0-60
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:32 |
|
and you know what? I'd still rather get the challenger, even though these two will run rings around it.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:33 |

That Camero has to be an auto to have such a quick top gear time.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:34 |

IF YOU AIN’T FIRST YER LAST!
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:35 |

My super uneducated guess would be that it shows the low end torque advantage of a push rod motor like the LT1 vs. one with DOHC like the Coyote.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:36 |

Ford notwithstanding, I take solace in that we’re at the turning point with model bloat. Manufacturers are starting to take weight savings as an effective way to increase performance and efficiency. Rejoice, the future is bright!
And FWIW, I think Ford should tried to make the mustang at least 6” shorter an a couple hundred lbs lighter. To me, a pony car is a compact muscle car, and it hasn’t been such since the sn95.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:37 |
|
Wow. I’m surprised at the 1/4 mile times. 13 flat at 112 equals a bad launch to me but the added weight of the stang comes into play here too. 2013 mustang gt with track pak runs 12.7 hmm. Camaro is cheaper too. Camaro the new performance bargain.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:48 |
|
Well, they started the pony car trend in the first place, maybe they still have enough influence to make them get smaller again with the next version. Though I have to say the way they are now, if they got smaller they'd just be sports cars, what with them being able to turn corners and things now.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:48 |
|
I’d still take the Mustang because I like being able to see as well as rest my elbow on the window sill without tearing my rotator cuff.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 09:57 |

MKZ did the slalom at 69.2 mph. MKZ is best car.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:12 |

With active exhaust available on GMs performance cars. You can have quite or loud.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:22 |

Have you seen the new one yet? It’s supposed to be smaller.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:25 |

You mean, you want actual windows instead of gun slits?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:26 |

Only in pictures, but I thought the new Mustang was supposed to be smaller too. Impressive weight loss by the Camaro.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:31 |

Yes, unless it’s the zombie apocalypse, in which case #CameroLyfe
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:44 |

displacement torque yo, it has a whole 2L more, valvetrain configuration has little to do with it.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:44 |

Looks like auto versus manual, but I can’t confirm. That article’s not online yet
![]() 11/24/2015 at 10:56 |

What models is that on beside Corvette?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:04 |

Is this SS vs GT? Also those P Zero tires are garbage.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:12 |

Corvette, Camaro V8 and base, Cadillac ATS and CTS, SS Sedan, maybe more.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:12 |

CTS-V, Camaro, I'm pretty sure one more I can't remember

Yes
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:41 |

Yeah, I’ve been predicting this ever since it was announced that the Camaro would be Alpha based.
Still, feels good to see. Curious to see how the Turbo performs compared to the Ecoboost: will the platform and weight make up for the power?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:42 |

As tested the Camaro was $4500 more. The 2016 Camaro is more expensive than the Mustang
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:42 |

Wut. Need source on that
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:45 |

Didn’t see that. Base price is lower on the camaro correct?

CRAZY.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 11:57 |

Hmmm this looks suspiciously like an auto vs manual with those top gear accel times......
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:03 |
|
The sixth gen is notably smaller than the fifth, so more like a tugboat now.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:19 |
|
Nah I looked at the mag, its just that the camaro is an auto and the mustang a manual...
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:25 |
|
That’s pretty crazy, well done Chevy.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:28 |

Impressive but whenever I see a test like this I want to see them done on a control tire because the rubber could easily account for nearly all of those small differences in performance. Put them both on the same size Michelin Supersport and I’d love to see the results.
/not trying to defend the Mustang, just curious
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:41 |
|
It is
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:43 |
|
Oh, I agree. It kinda makes sense though, they're comparing out the box performance
![]() 11/24/2015 at 12:45 |
|
I test drove a 5th gen once, and I was dumbfounded by its size. Like I was pulling into a parking spot on my right and I stopped halfway in because I couldn't see over the fender to know if I was going to hit something. Oddly, a Challenger SRT8 I drove, which I believe is ever larger, felt smaller.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 13:13 |
|
I’ve also driven both, but own a fifth gen Camaro. The Challenger felt way bigger IMO, but I’m all of 5’3” so that doesn’t help either.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 13:41 |
|
And wasnt the camaro an auto tranny for that test?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 16:40 |

What the hell with top gear acceleration. I want to see that comparison. (Not because I don’t believe it, just to see how humiliating the Mustang would look).
![]() 03/16/2016 at 21:25 |

IIRC, lincoln was also sending them out on like super car tires when they sent them to auto mags to be reviewed. thats even written in the article

I think it was just Pilot Super Sports
![]() 03/16/2016 at 21:28 |

“Our V6, all-wheel-drive 2013 Lincoln MKZ test car showed up wearing ultra-aggressive Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires (245/40ZR19). They’re the kind of tires that come standard on cars like the $90K BMW M5 and the $410K Ferrari 599 GTO .”
yea. super car tires
![]() 03/16/2016 at 21:37 |

Lol touché but it’s crazy to think that tires would be responsible for that much of a speed difference.
Also my post to Jake was definitely a joke, I don’t like Lincoln lol (commercials are nice though)
![]() 03/16/2016 at 21:45 |

tires make a HUGE difference. go running in ski boots and then in running shoes. tell me the difference.
or even work boots and running shoes.
