It’ll be a VE like the one below. Probably not an SS or a V8, possibly in black.
It should be pretty nice, the VE were a good look that got muddied up a bit with the later VF. He’s wanted this for a long time, and he lives with me so I should be able to get some pics/experiences onto Oppo!
Ps. My father has a Ford Territory and Ranger, I don’t think either of those were sold stateside either, and that makes them cool right?
Right?

The hell is a Ford Territory?

I wish we got all of the variants here in the States. I’d be really interested in a UTE.

Apparently this is one:

Google it :) It’s an SUV built off the local Ford Falcon. I think they wanted to cash in on the SUV trend, and it worked to an extent, but the Falcon is on its last legs regardless.

Don’t you mean Holdenamino?
That “-amino” thing kills me. They’re utes, darnit. They were utes here long before they were El Caminos over there.

That looks like the Ford Freestyle!

I wonder what it would take to get a Falcon to the US.....

Also known as the Taurus X

Will it do a burnout?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 20:39 |

It does a little. The newer one looks a lot like the global Ford EcoSport, though I think ours came out earlier. My dad’s is a brown diesel...it’s actually fairly Jalop come to think about it. I think it’s RWD also.
![]() 11/23/2015 at 20:39 |

I’d have to assume it’s covered by the 25 year rule, right?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 20:42 |

That does look sort of similar! Same concept I guess, a car-based SUV. Except in our case the car is RWD and can come with a V8. Not sure if the Territory got that, but it did have a turbo for a little while.
![]() 11/23/2015 at 20:42 |

Yep, that’s an earlier one. My father has the second generation.

It will once I get a hold of it.

my least favorite part of my WRX was that it was black. so if the territory was made off the falcon did they ever make a territory in this trim?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:20 |

More then likely. How much is a 1973 XB Falcon down there?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:26 |

I’ll make sure he gets a set of pink white-walled stockies for the rear #straya
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:28 |

I think this is about as gaudy as it got unfortunately
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:29 |

Not cheap, for a good one. But the XB isn’t the most expensive there.
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:34 |

So for 35k.....I could ahve a XB fastback w/351C......

Yes, for more than a year’s minimum wage you could have a thirsty old sedan that’s slower than your average Golf ;)
![]() 11/23/2015 at 21:44 |
|
Well it’s can’t be slower then this.
My Gran Torino can out run a Golf.

Why not a ute?

Here is your Ford Falcon
![]() 11/23/2015 at 22:13 |

Even though it’s probably not the SS or a V8, will you still try for a burnout?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 22:22 |

KILL IT WITH FIRE
![]() 11/23/2015 at 22:53 |

Can you Australians sell some Utes and wagons in the US, just V8’s, as enthusiast specials? I mean, the Chevy SS can’t sell cuz Chevy doesn’t market it or make it seem special, but if a few hundred batshit crazy, 550hp cars came over, then enthusiasts, like Polestar buyers, would eat them up, right?
![]() 11/23/2015 at 23:37 |

Will it two-step?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:43 |

I’m sure there are Golfs that can outrun your Gran Torino too.
But I do understand that the appeal of old cars isn’t necessarily in their performance.

Will it punch a kangaroo while skulling a slab of VB?
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:44 |

Yes to both
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:45 |

I can see no reason not to. They might get ruled out by the chicken tax though, because land of the free
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:46 |

You’re not the first one to ask me this. And yes, of course. I did a burnout in the last Commodore he had, that was considerably less powerful.
If nothing else it’ll be hekkers in the wet I’m sure.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:46 |

If he asks, I didn’t do a burnout in the last one he had.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 00:50 |

Ya, but just replacing the top end of the car to the tune of ~$3500 USD I can get 400HP

Utes are less practical than a wagon and with less seats. They’re bought by a certain sort of person: hoons, tradies mostly. My brother likes the look of the sportwagon, and it’s a bit more in every way than his Focus.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 01:18 |

Is that a Falcon or Mondeo? Can never tell these days. They’re very different cars underneath, but only underneath.

Wonders about Australian English:
Tradies
Hekkers
![]() 11/24/2015 at 05:28 |

I had a tradie at my house this morning. He actually identified as a “sparkie”. They do it to themselves!
![]() 11/24/2015 at 06:06 |
|
Is he starting a family or becoming a tradie? Why on earth would he want a wagon?
No no! He decided to become a roadie. Only people who carry lots of stuff need wagons.

Nah mate, 4X. Because VB is piss.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 15:51 |

I like the word ute used to describe anything with a bed. (Wait am I correct in that understanding?)
Here in ‘Merca we would probably use the word pickup as you use ute.
El Camino is just Spanish for “the road,” but people either love the El Camino or hate it. I am of the former category. So Holdenamino would be a term of endearment as far as I'm concerned.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 17:21 |

We tend to use the word pickup for anything bigger than a ute. It’s not completely clear-cut, but “ute” tends to be just those that are derived from cars.
A Hilux is a pickup, for example.
Nothing is a truck. We don’t do
truck.
Only semi-trucks are trucks.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 17:25 |
|
You could say that. Or you could say a sedan is like a wagon with less space and no upsides. He’s no tradie or family, he’s just stepping up from the Focus hatch to something a bit bigger, bolder and manlier.
![]() 11/24/2015 at 21:04 |

Purely ego. Got it ;)
![]() 11/25/2015 at 08:14 |
|
That makes more sense.
Our use of the word truck probably comes from the DOT designation of Light-Truck, aka, anything used to commute to an office job but capable to hauling a load of mulch on the weekend.
Then middle weight trucks are like large moving trucks/box trucks, and of course semi's are heavy duty trucks.
![]() 11/25/2015 at 15:41 |

I always thought it was a bragging thing. That it was about having the biggest, silliest thing on the roads and telling everyone it was a truck to enforce that idea.
![]() 11/25/2015 at 15:56 |
|
I mean there is a certain weight carried in saying that you drive a truck, but it is not something you brag about because it will inevitably involve helping someone move.
Sure there is a subculture that values having the biggest most obnoxious truck. I recently rode in a Ram 2500 diesel that had a 6” lift with 37” tires. I am only 5’7” and that thing was nothing short of a challenge to get in and out of.
Most full size trucks (a HiLux would be a midsize I guess in our market) are tall enough in factory form that a short person like myself is content with standard ride height, maybe even a 2” leveling kit to get rid of the rear biased rake.
But to be sure, "bro culture" has given us these silly oversized pickup trucks you are thinking of. Got to have the biggest around and what not.
