If Kitchenette is really going away, I’ll be sad.

Agreed, those were fascinating... BUT don’t worry the series has been picked up.

I’m also bummed that The Vane was dumped.

Good news for us BCO readers.
This will be the last Behind Closed Ovens to appear on Kitchenette. It will not, however, be the last Behind Closed Ovens. Starting next Monday, November 30, the series will continue on
Wonkette
. If you’d like to read more crazy restaurant stories in the future, feel free to tune in over there at your regularly-scheduled BCO day and time.

They’re killing off io9. How do you think I feel?
This bloody sucks man.

It seems neutral journalism doesn’t fill Dick Denton’s pockets.

Oh man, if you guys liked Jezebel, you’ll looooove Wonkette! #lmfao

What’s Behind Closed Ovens?

I freaking LOVE BCO. So glad it’s being saved. I still have some level of PTSD from being in the restaurant biz from age 14-30 ;).

(Un?)Fortunately I never waited tables in my early career... I bagged groceries at Kroger for $4.25/hour instead like an idiot.
But yes, I’ve forwarded many of these to friends of mine that have told me similar stories of awful serving experiences. I’m always amazed at how inhumanely some customers treat people that bring them food.

Is that true? I hadn’t heard that.

I bagged, stocked, and checked at Gerbes for a few years (Kroger-owned). Seems like I got at least $5 to start...
I’ve somehow managed to never work food service.

I used to work at an oil change place. I thought WE had some bad customers.....
I do feel like we need to do more installments of “behind shop doors” for those of us at dealerships and the like.

I started there in 1993.

I will personally drop a diesel twingo from the empire state building on the first person here who disparages Wonkette.
...as soon as I figure out how to arrange those specific things together. ...uhh...but don’t think I can’t! One unfavorable word and your fate will be sealed!

Would have been the same for me, or maybe ‘94 - ha. Middle of Missouri.

I lasted a week at my first job in a mall food court stand. People apparently do not like getting shawarma with a side of insults. We had shawarma, fries or bags of chips in full view of the register/counter, and a soda fountain in full view. People would still take 5 minutes to order. Yes, I am not a patient man.

Not completely axing it like the other blogs off the bat. But I feel like this is just part of a longer game plan that sees Giz cover all the things io9 used to. I won’t be shocked at all if there is no io9 a few years from now.

There’s a lot of crossover between the two with content and audience... it doesn’t sound like a crazy idea to mix them. I think i09 is great and Giz is mostly ok now that Jesus Diaz doesn’t troll their readers anymore.

Oh I have seen that. Agreed, those are good.

I read BCO every week also. I didn’t get the whole gist of the memo though, is Jez doing away with all of the Kitchenette? I Know BCO will live on at least. Not sure the reasoning behind getting rid of it. That probably generated a ton of traffic for them.

For purely selfish reasons, I'm okay with this. io9 is blocked for me at work, where Giz isn't.
![]() 11/23/2015 at 15:27 |

If io9 got blocked for content reasons, giz might get blocked after all of io9s content gets covered there. :(

Yeah, I know. One can hope they’ll miss it though. Lol

I've noticed that too. They overlap a lot. I guess splitting i09 between Kotaku and Gizmodo would probably be easiest.

You mean you don’t go on Jezebel to join in on the fight against the Patriarchy????
LOL
