So who else played Battlefront all weekend? I did! And I returned the game last night via Origin’s Great Game deal.

Generally shocked and disappointed at the game. It was a BEAUTIFUL game, but it ended there. As a Battlefield Veteran, this wasn’t the game I was looking for to get my Battlefield 5 fix till that game comes out.

I spent Saturday hammering on massive drum brakes and fixing a tent, and what gaming I did yesterday was Fallout 4.

My 10-year-olds are asking for it. We’ve never played any other Battlefront titles. Do you think they might enjoy it?

I’d rent it first (if that is still a thing).

There are only a handful of maps, all the guns are the same and no single player worth mentioning. It is an expensive mistake.

It makes me sad. I got it and fallout 4 and I played it for like an hour... Then played fallout all weekend

So I might be better off buying them an older title?

Yes. It may keep their attention for a week or so, but for the price it is steep for what little you get. But I am a hardcore FPS gamer.

I’d wait for the (inevitable) price drop. This game is getting grilled in reviews.

Any recommendations? My wife and I aren’t that crazy about our kids playing FPS games at their age, but I would make an exception for a SW title (as long as it isn’t gory).

No, I am in my 30s with no kids. I am not in the best position to make recommendations, sorry.

Battlefront is not gory, but the game is multiplayer focused. So there will be the usual banter on headsets, chat or whatever.

I think I may be the only Battlefield player who is having a grand old time in Battlefront. Everyone is so dumb, its glorious. I am waiting to see what the DLC situation is before A) I get the season pass, and B) render final judgement on if the game is worth it.

If the DLC comes out, especially the map packs aside from Jakku, come out and it is like 1 more map for each game type, I will be disappointed. If we get multiple maps per gametype and/or more vehicles, weapons, heroes, and powercards I will be ok with it.

Get Battlefield 1942! It’s free on Origin and it has all sorts of mods (my favorite is Desert Combat, it makes it like BF2, just with an older graphics engine). It also has no bad language or blood (or online, servers shut down I think) so it should be perfect!

I was disappointed by Halo 5 too. My friends who got Fallout 4 said they preferred previous titles. One of my friends is enjoying the new Call of Duty, which I probably should have gotten instead of Halo since I enjoyed the beta so much. Also sucks since my group has played every aspect of Destiny to death. I need a good FPS in my life.

I played the hell out of Battlefront 1 & 2. I loved the firefight matches I made. 100 vs 100 soldiers down to just one left and made up my own storys etc. The great space battles in BF2. I liked glitching through the hanger bay and walk on the ship in outer space :P

EA messed this one up... like they always do.

Are you playing on PC or console? I wanted to buy it for PC, but every Battlefield game launch has been a clusterfuck back to Battlefield 2 in 2005. I figured Battlefront would be pretty rough launch, so I held out from buying it. I guess it’s worth waiting for some DLC or a price drop, even if it is playing well?

I am on Xbox One. Compared to Battlefield 3 and 4 (played on 360 first, but as fucked as any cluster could be), the game functions have been really good so far. The game froze once in between matches and booted me to the home screen, but otherwise it has been problem free. (minimal lag, have not seen the frame-rate drop, hit detection is good, the squad/partner/friend join feature seems to work well)

So I can’t speak to PC, but I’ve been impressed on the xbone. You may want to wait to see if the price drops due to reviews, or see what the DLC situation is, but I like it so far.

Haha, the possibility of playing massively multiplayer against incompetent opponents does have a certain draw to it. I might have to try it out.

It is pretty great, just don’t fall into the trap of the “meat-grinder.” The general pace of the game tries to push people into sprinting in the thick of the action, blasting a guy, dying, repeating. But if you play a little bit smart, you know: use cover, run away/take cover when you start taking hits, and manage your cooldowns it is easy to do well.

Haha, yeah, see a lot of people do it in Call of Duty and stuff too. High kill counts, but equally high death counts. I’m more of a run around the edges kind of guy

Well, if you are coming from COD, be aware that the guns are not hit-scan, they actually have velocities and it differs from gun to gun. So you do need to lead targets if they’re moving laterally. If you play Battlefield, I think the blaster velocities are pretty similar to using a suppressor in that game. But I don’t think there is any “bullet drop” on the blasters, or if there is it’s negligible. I think a lot of people are struggling with this, because it seems like I spent a lot of time strafing and watching blaster fire hit like 4 feet behind my character.

All kids should play battlefront 2 if they haven't already.
